It's hard to imagine that I'm back in the cockpit and cutting through yet another sector in the Deep Black, this time well south of the Ceos/Sothis area.

I thought that I wouldn't be getting back into the cockpit of the Leif Eiriksson given my explosions and abrupt departure from the regional office about the less than quality hull materials and how easily they wore down during 5 days survey expeditions spinward from Sothis. I also exploded about all the cherry picking I had been cleaning up to the Dark Sectors and that something should be done about compensating for system completion. With those suggestions falling on deaf ears, I exploded out of the Guild Buildings, put the Leif Eiriksson into storage and took a passenger transport to my homeworld to enjoy my time at the bottom of a gravity well.

Two months passed and between the letters from family, the usual bills that pile up when I'm in the Deep Black, the technical letters from the Factions that I subscribed to and the usual newspaper articles I pay attention to, I got a request from the Pilot's Guild asking me to come back. While I wasn't interested in the whole Multi-Crew Shenanigans that have been hinted at from the Beta Pilots, I was interested in the fact that the current contractors hired for hull materials had been removed and a new contractor hired. The Pilot's Guild Letter also stated increases in survey payouts for Earth-Likes, Terraformables and High Metal Planets.

A passenger liner back to Newholm Station and after a the usual preflight checks -- and seeing that the controls had once again been set back to default -- set off to test the new materials in a 5 day mission surveying in the Deep Black. Coming back, yes I made more money as promised and the repair costs for that 5 day mission felt like a tune up & oil change; rather than something closer to a re-buy for the ship.

So I'm back out there again, this time for an extended mission. It's nice to see the Milky Way from a darkened cockpit, instead of in a picture on my visual screens. From where I currently am in the Milky Way; I can see the Heart & Soul Nebulae. It's nicer not to deal with the hustle and bustle of being at the bottom of a gravity well as I cruise through the Deep Black. And of course, it's great to hear the familiar sounds of the FSD drive as I cruise between planets in a star system and the stars on my current course.
