Entry 118 - 05.23.3304 The Story So Far II...

23 May 2018MBaldelli
Current System:  Sothis

When I jumped into supercruise once leaving the gravity well of my homeworld I didn't know which direction I would be going, let alone why.  There was a notion about going back to Jane's Horizon to see how the wing I had briefly been part of was doing with their work against some of the minor factions there.

It didn't feel quite right at the moment.  It didn't feel like the sort of seclusion I was looking for from the hounding I had taken at home.

I plotted spinward toward deep space.   The typical allure of being in the Deep Black and far, far away from Civilization had its usual appeals to both my mind and my soul.

I was about a week into the exploration when something went terribly wrong:  something about a leak.  Maybe coolant.  Maybe fire suppression.  I remember trying to fix it while I could with my suits life support running.  And I thought I was even successful about it too as I could shut down the emergency life support, and return to breathing the recycled air for the Zheng He.

I forgot to do the double check for atmospheric quality.  I was either over-tired or still getting over the stress, but ended up being knocked unconscious by the noxious fumes while I was getting ready to sleep in my billet.

From what I've been able to collect from the post-accident investigation, the AI for the Zheng He realizing my vitals were all over the place because of anoxia had activated my suit, put me in cryogenic sleep and then proceeded to set a course for my home station.

I did stop at Janes Horizon, but after a refuelling there, the ship continued on its way to Newholm Station instead.  The Zheng He's AI didn't suffer any damage and I know that I did program the home port to Janes when I had the chance, but for some reason it still returned to Newholm without hesitation.

I was in the medical bay at Newholm for three months between a medically induced coma and unconsciousness while doctors and medics there repaired the damage done to my lungs and respiratory system from the noxious fumes.  I spent the next two months going through various rehabilitation and physical therapy sessions trying to get the strength back both to my atrophied muscles as well as the mending performed on my body.

When the medical staff gave me the clearance to fly again, I decided that I would do some of the old grind between Ceos and Sothis for the Federation Rank.  Easy stuff that wouldn't be too stressful as I get used to zero/lower gravity once again.  In about a week and a half, I had been promoted to Ensign to Lieutenant Commander.

I had the opportunity to earn enough credits not only purchasing the Python but at least 8 or so rebuys, so currently sitting in Newholm Station is the Buccaneer.

I was still in routine communications with the recent recruits from the Academy doing the routine duty of advising them what to expect once they graduate and go out into the black.  Seems that in spite of the fact that I've been laid up and recovering, the Academy still thought it good for my experience to be conveyed to the greenies.

Out of all the students I talked with, one of them not only graduated but also started the climb out of the greeny area and into the Deep Black to Ceos/Sothis.  He's tenacious and stubborn enough to make the climb through the ranks of the Pilot's Guild and even the Federation to (maybe) get himself an Anaconda.

About a week ago, we started the first leg of a Deep Space Exploration South of Sothis.  While this brash young, Captain didn't load up his SRV like I did -- he was quickly getting the hang of  complete system surveys.  He even got himself more than a handful of first discovered worlds in the process.

Then there was yesterday morning.  I was having my morning coffee, checking systems and starting my feed into Galaxy Radio, I was reading through some of the email from the Pilot's Federation and saw they were running an event for Trade starting on Thursday.

Talking to the brash Commander flying with me, he agreed that he wanted to participate and back to Sothis we went.

Since getting home, I've transferred command to the Buccaneer and enjoying a little down time around the station until the event start.

Editor's Note: While i was able to cool down sufficiently in six months, when news hit about Power Play and this Credit Booster Event for Trade; several streamers and friends and I  were more than surprised by the change of pace that FDEV is going through.  I'm willing to see if they're actually getting away from the salt the forums have created or not remains to be seen.  But like a beta-tester, I'll be back checking it and giving them the information they seem to need.
