DW II | The Omega Situation

The fleet has been held up here longer than I anticipated. Anyone who knows me knows that this is a recipe for my restlessness - and usually they'd be right. But things have gone awry in this system, and the local workers' union has staged an uprising against the Omega Mining Corporation. It's all out civil war at this point, and the system is being torn apart.I've never been the guy to sit things out, but I did take initial pause. All of my instincts have me fighting for the union - because, well, fuck the guy with the money - but Omega's importance on this expedition isn't lost on me, either. They're playing a key role in the construction of the starport at Sagittarius A*. If they, as an entity, collapse... what will happen to the thousands of tons of ore we just collected?
It didn't take long to land on the notion that out here, 5,000 light years from the bubble, is the one place man should be free from the tyranny of greed. I took a look at what the workers had been dealing with. Famine. Disease. Inexcusably low wages.
It wasn't going to fly.
Just this morning I gunned down several dozen OMC ships in low orbit. I'll gun down as many more as necessary. Because these women and men of the union aren't fighting for kicks. They're fighting for their lives. And at this point, if they don't succeed, their spirit and honour might be lost forever.
So now, instead of wishing the fleet's launch were sooner, I'm finding myself wishing it were further off. These people need our help. And this far from the core of humanity, I think we're their last shot.
