Word has it that the Federation have lost a capital ship to the Thargoids. Everyone in Lavochkin Terminal, Mariga, were stood in the station concourse watching news reels recounting the news. Of course it was the same points repeated over and over again, but I was stunned by the level of panic gripping citizens of the Empire. Many are looking for a statement from the Emperor, some kind of reassurance that plans have been put in place, but I doubt anyone could have prepared properly for this. When you've served within any Navy, myself in the Federation's, you learn to live with hardship and danger lurking around every corner. This is different though, we are not fighting amongst ourselves, our species is now at odds with another. I don't really know how to feel, but inaction is not an option. Yesterday I made some calls to former acquaintances in the Federation Navy for information on any independent groups preparing for the Thargoids. After cross-checking some of them I contacted Evangeline's Elite Expeditionary Force, a small group with some dedicated pilots looking to defend the Federation. The Mariga station personnel were furious to see me pack up my gear and the locals gave me looks of disgust. Hopefully they'll understand one day, I'll keep an ear out in case Mariga is hit, lots of nice people here.
All of my ships have now arrived at their latest home, Shana Bei, and I have altered my business plans to account for a long conflict. Aurora will be seeing a lot more action for a good while, my Assault Ship build will have to wait. It feels strange to be back home in the Federation, but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else right now. I spoke with a few when I landed, some relieved to see a new combat pilot on deck, others branding me mad. Maybe they have a point, we don't really know what we'll be facing out there. All the more reason to have a fast combat ship with a decent jump range; I get the feeling I will be doing a lot of recon over the next few weeks.
