Logbook entry

One pretty map...

Bit of an image-heavy log this one, sorry!

(And a bit of a sad start - I had to let Laney go! Long story short, most of my logs to date have been (or ham-fistedly tried to be!) sort of tongue-in-cheek immersive, in that I've been just recounting my various shenanigans in the world of Elite. For the giggles and hell of it though, I thought I'd have a stab at going "full-immersion" with my logs starting soon, fully "in-character" - probably a complete mess but might be fun To that end, I'm going to knock up a proper crew and Laney's stuff didn't really fit, so I guess I'll be hitting the crew lounge hard again! Anyhow, I'll get cracking on that ready for my next big excursion, but for now, business as usual!)

My vacation in the bubble was starting to come to an end, so I figured I'd best tick a few boxes I grabbed the Cassandra and took her big beautiful butt over to Ariel, wanted to see how she looked in the canyons. Was not disappointed!

From there it was a quick hop over to Europa to check out the ice geysers - I'll freely admit this isn't my best pic, but I love the way the Cass just looks like a big old dog, sniffing at the fountain

I figured I'd drop by Achenar while I'm back in the bubble (being a Gutamaya Gal and all!) and got some fun pics of the clipper buzzing around the Capitol. Reading the descriptions of the Imperial Palace and capital city from the data beacon make me wish we had atmospherics sooo badly! Anyhoo, random shots of Capitol:

Back to Jameson. There's been so much chat about the imminent thargoid invasion that I thought I should have a poke around the thargoid bases before the big day. I've seen all the news and pics of folks pottering around the bases but I was off out and about, didn't really have the time. Now was as good a time as any I guess, so I jumped back in the cutter and scooted off out to the Pleiades to grab the necessary Unknown knick knacks, then headed to HIP 14909.

Pretty - darn - cool I popped the Cass into station about 2km up and headed out in an slf to have a sniff. Quick poke around the central structure to identify the entry points...

Massively irreverent, but those weird skeletal structures make for great joyride material as I buzz through them. Hmmm...I wonder...back to the Cassandra....

This was not a good idea. Hilarious, but not a good idea I've never wanted wing mirrors in a ship so badly! Finally manage to shimmy her back out of the Thargoid nooks n crannies, and set her down nearby. Time for the main event! Hop into the slf, load up the sizzling unknown gubbins that are quietly melting my srv, then trundle down to the base. After spending a few minutes making a total muppet of myself trying to scoop the links while they're in the air, out of frustration I shoot em (words to live by) and boom - down it drops and I can scoop it.

What a muppet.

Right - jettison the last one, scan and holy cow - absolutely speechless.

What was originally a pretty scary and spooky alien structure becomes absolutely beautiful, I'm completely mesmerized! It's over too soon, but I have the memories at least...

Whatever the arrival brings, this was worth the effort.
