Proof Of Concept - Bit 2: Homeward Bound

Well - we made it

This is hardly my first date with the galactic sinkhole. Far from it; but it is my first time carting two hundred and forty-five tons of cargo out here, just to prove a point! Still, to be able to lie back and float around in pampered bliss while gazing up at the majesty of the core, that's got to be worth it.

Hasn't it?

After our arrival at the Core, we'd dropped out of cruise a few systems removed from Sag A* (I'll not sleep in the same 'room' as that bottomless maw!). Everyone had gone to their bunks after the celebrations and I collapsed into mine, exhausted but happy - we'd done it, we'd proven you could still go at a fair lick and cross the galaxy in good time, even with the ingredients for a swimming pool on board

And then my stupid brain started up >.<

The pool idea had been really good fun, a good giggle and I'd had some fun sitting up late on the bridge during the journey, sketching out some ideas to wave back to Donk in the bubble; but the more I thought about it, the more I realised there was a far grander project that I could, that I should be working on - finishing what I'd started a few weeks ago in the Cassandra and finding my perfect paradise ELW to build a home on.

I'm getting to that point where I want to have my own little sanctuary, my own Shangri-La that I can tiptoe back to now and then and quietly let the galaxy pass me by. But first I have to find it - and then I have to build my little home-away-from-home! Thoughts of a swimming pool caged in a cargo hold were replaced by a tidal rock pool looking out over sea, just down the path from my beautiful private villa nestled in a tropical nirvana

I'll be the first to admit - I'm a bit of a dreamer There's so much I want to see and do that sometimes I trip over myself and never finish a thought! There's always been one constant in my mind though and its been this idea of having a touchstone in the galaxy, somewhere I can escape to when I need a break from everything. I'd made a good start on it a few weeks ago when I'd taken the Cass out around the galaxy but hadn't really found the perfect world. I had to finish what I'd started and find my paradise before the real work began, to build my home.

I promised myself I'd sleep on it. But this feels right, feels more solid and I'm pretty certain the first thing I do when I wake up tomorrow is send a wave to Jameson telling Donk to put the pool on hold and go drink my tab dry as an apology for wasting his time! Hopefully he'll be clear headed when I get back though - I'm going to need the Cassandra checked over for a quick turn around.

I need to get back out there and finish what I started

(So this is my ham-fisted way of saying that, while it's been a good giggle mocking up some ideas for the pool in Blender, I had a creeping thought that if I was going to sink a lot of time and effort into this, what I really wanted to do was build that home/base and an ELW environment. It's something I'd much prefer to do as I love creating terrain and landscapes and where the actual house is concerned, it doesn't have to be tied down to the art-style of whatever ship I would otherwise be making an interior for.

I have been able to tidy up and sort out a model of the cutter, although I haven't settled on what ship I'm ultimately going to use as my "settler" ship in the story, but now I'm a bit more practiced at it, that shouldn't be too much drama. So, that's the plan and I feel a LOT happier about it now. Sorry about the lack of pool, hopefully a beach-side villa will do as a replacement! )

Bit of a pig to get tidied up, but finally got the base model sorted (chrome texture just for testing, not about to bling the cutter!)

Please note: image and model are for entertainment purposes only and under no circumstances will model data be distributed to anyone else, it's just for personal poking around and renders
