There are no cats in space....

All these stars. All these stars keep screaming at me. I don't know if my sensors are malfunctioning or I am... It started a few weeks ago. I was patiently hunting down artifacts for sale to the mad men in Iapodes. I had scooped one after its usual screeching nonsense... I closed my hatch, and then there was blackness. I don't know what happened while I was unconsious... The Auto-pilot must have engaged because I woke up just as my nav computer chimed my arrival in Iapodes. I made my sale, and began the trip back to Saunders's....Blackness again.... Wolf 1301 appears infront of me, and my proximity sensors began blaring. A few hasty manuevers kept me from crashing to my death, but now there was a smell in the cabin... 400ls to Saunders's.... Blackness...Out of the blackness loomed something darker, vaguely menacing. Then I wake up again sitting safely on the pad at the Dive, fresh oxygen flooding my cockpit brings me fully awake but a strange feeling lingers on my fingers, as if they had just been stroking something soft. I wondered if I should visit medical.
That was 3 weeks ago. Since then I can't get an image from humanities history out of my mind... They taught us back in the creche about the extinction of most of Earths animal life after the Third World War... So as with everyone in space I had never seen a cat in person... Old family photography featured some of the animals but it had been generations since any had existed let alone been owned.
But that was the only thing it could be... A cat.... burned onto the backs of my eyelids. I don't know how it found its way into my head, but it won't go away. Every time I wake I feel it under my fingers, soft and warm, only to be snatched away as conciousness floods in...
Am I going crazy? Or have I been touched by something greater? I can almost hear a name in the sounds the dream cat makes.... Maybe tomorrow I will remember.
