STAR ONE FLEET CARRIER EXPEDITION 3308/3309 (Trip #10)

28 Feb 2023XhaleR
Standing on the bridge of the FC "Antumbra Ferroque" I'm enjoying the first fleet carrier jump of the expedition and super excited to bring my own carrier across the galaxy for the very first time. With almost my entire fleet of ships docked onboard I should be fully prepared for any kind of "challenges" on the way.

01.12.3308 - DAY 1 - LEAVING THE BUBBLE WITH STYLE!
After finishing the final preparations I started the expedition with a few carrier jumps before undocking with the my explorer Anaconda; the "Prometheus". Despite having a 500 LY jumprange, I mainly prefer flying and exploring the galaxy in my ship whenever I can.
Covered 1200LY the first day and landed on a nice atmospheric planet for the night. It contains 9 different biology types so I'm staying here for a while to collect the valuable samples for Vista Genomics before leaving and catching up with the carrier.

03.12.3308 - DAY 3 - FIRST EARTHLIKE DISCOVERY!
At 5400LY's away from home I'm starting to get into unknown territory and three days into the expedition I have discovered my first Earth Like World. I'm always excited when bumping into a new and undiscovered ELW. The system also contains a terraformable water world and I also claimed first footfall on the only atmospheric landable planet in the system.

05.12.3308 - DAY 5 - MORE RARE DISCOVERIES
Using a fleetcarrier has turned out to be very effective in relation to travel speed as I have covered 18 000LY in just 5 days.
Today's rare discoveries was finding another Earth Like World and on the next jump I found my first Ammonia World on the expedition. As a bonus on the end of the day I also discovered the first expedition Neutron star. One of the great benefits bringing my own carrier is that I can sell my precious explorerdata whenever I want not risk losing it if things should heat up or go wrong.

08.12.3308 - DAY 8 - ARRIVING AT "STAR ONE"
After eight days and jumping 36 000LY's I have arrived at the destination, Star One. The "Antumbra Ferroque" has been safely stationed outside the main star accompanied by two other carriers in the system.

Star One is a great place to visit with its pitch black view towards the Andromeda galaxy and as close as we (currently) can get to it. My last visit here was during the return from the Perseus Reach expedition back in 3306. It's nice to be back for another visit!

11.12.3308 - DAY 11 - THINGS DOESN'T ALWAYS GO AS PLANNED
Just relaxing here at Star One and exploring a few nearby systems while waiting for the rest of the fleet to arrive.
But things doesn't always goes as planned and due to some unforeseen changes in the expedition setup I unfortunately have to end it here and continue on my own. Not a big deal as I am used to travel the galaxy on my own, but I was really looking forward to the expedition meetups and massjumps which are always much fun. But at least I reached the "rendez vous" point so no hard feelings afterall.

What a view!!

Searching for biology

20.01.3309 - DAY 28 - NEUTRONS AND EARTH LIKE MOONS
It's been almost three weeks since I left the expedition and I am well on my way back to the bubble. Just relaxing and having fun searching for new and exciting systems along the way. Today was a real "payoff" as I found some undiscovered gems; a Neutron star and some WW's. But the big surprise of the day was finding one of these very rare ELW moons orbiting a HMCW. With a travel log more than 1,7 million LY's I think this is my third discovered ELW moon, so these guys are hard to find.

11.12.3308 - DAY 43 - HOME, SWEET HOME!
Returning back to civilization after some time out in the black is always a great feeling! After 43 days the "Antumbra Ferroque" is safely parked outside B 1 in my home system Mata.

A few fleet carrier experiences to share after the expedition:
Bringing my FC with me on such a long expedition has been quite an advantage as I've always had a safe haven to return to whenever I wanted, either for repairs or securing my exploration data. But on the other hand, after completing a journey like this there are also a few things that makes me consider leaving it back home next time. Afterwards I think the most important reason is that I had to stay within just a few jumps away from the carrier all the time as I frequently had to manually refuel it. That made me feel kind of captured and bound during the expedition. When I'm out exploring I also want to travel in my ship and not being docked inside a fleet carrier all the time. I want to have total freedom to go wherever I want without any other boundaries than the edges of the galaxy. Bringing a carrier also includes more planning and logistics and finally; IT'S DAMN EXPENSIVE as you will need a lot of Tritium. This 70 000LY roundtrip to Star One and back was approximately a billion credits in fuel! And there are probably no one out in the deep black that will donate anything so you either have to fill up the carrier before you leave home or spend a "lifetime" mining Tritium on the way!
