Entry #015 - The Slow Cruise

Commander's log, 25 May, 3303We saw The Great Annihilator and it was every bit as marvellous as I had hoped. We went back and forth between the twin black holes, gathering data and even spent 24 hours there, doing scans and searching for celestial bodies. We departed soon after and set a course for home. We have given up finding the neutron highway home and that's all well as the crew and I are more than tired of the constant rigging and preparing for the turbulence of the jet streams. I've opted for the slow cruise home and that means more scans and more systems. So far I've gathered an impressive log of Earth-like Planets and Water Worlds just from Sag. A* and to where we are now. To alleviate some of the weariness of the crew, I've ordered the navigator to chart in courses that take us through nebulae, so that we at least have some spectacular way of measuring the legs of our homeward journey.
It's been a month since we held the services for the lost crew and life is starting to come back to normal. The daily rutines are not as, shall we say, "forced" as they used to, and I start to see smiles on peoples' faces when I pass through the hallways.
I am personally still devastated by the loss of the crew. Especially Napoleon still haunts me. He is my nightly caller, sometimes speaking and sometimes just staring at me and the most disturbing part is that I don't know if he's angry or just sorrowful. His expression rarely changes. A part of me - and I'm inclined to think that this is the space madness talking - thinks he may still be alive, somewhere inside Sag. A* and is trying to communicate with me, although that would be absurd. Who knows? I just hope that he is in no pain, where ever he is.
The Zemt Quinta Essentia is running smoothly and little by little the galactic ring is thinning out. We're getting closer to home every day.
I'll have words with Napoleon's family when we get back to the bubble. That is the least, I can do for him. For him and them.
