Personal Log - Expedition Day 6

30 Jun 2019Timothy Hooker
Personal log, Commander Timothy Hooker, Research Vessel Curiosity, 30 June 3305. Expedition Day 6.

Sacaqawea Space Port proved to be a fortuitous stopover in several ways. After the first day of repairs on Curiosity, I decided to find somewhere to relax for the night. A few of the technicians who were getting off-duty suggested a local watering hole, so I went to check it out. After a few drinks, I found myself playing a few hands of low-stakes cards. The deckhands were the friendly sort, and I relented on my earlier decision to go about the repairs on my own. Besides, the job proved to be a lot bigger than I'd initially thought. There were defective parts and shoddy work all over the ship. Over the ensuing couple of days that I spent at Sacaqawea, we performed a nearly complete overhaul of the vessel. After the repairs were complete, I thoroughly inspected the work - no more taking chances. This time around, the ship seemed to be in working order from stem to stern.

At 1751, 30 June 3305, RV Curiosity launched from Sacaqawea Space Port. Another way that the port proved to be an excellent stop was its proximity to a star on the neutron highway. In just over two hours, I covered the distance between Sacaqawea and the Colonia system.

Curiosity arrived in Colonia at 1959, mission-hour 121. I have never had the chance to visit the Colonia region, and it seems to have grown up quite fast since they first began settlement out here. I'm likely going to spend some time in the region before moving on with the next leg of my expedition. Still, I'll need to be cautious in my travels. Within moments of jumping into the system, an unidentified vessel initiated an interdiction of my ship. I doubt this will be the only instance. Colonia is a long way from civilization, and frontier justice is likely to prove less than effective at keeping up with the in-flux of pirates and cold-blooded psychopaths.

It's kind of strange, but I feel more alone here than I was out in the black. Anyway, I doubt I'll be sticking around long enough to make any friends. Most of the people I've seen so far don't seem like the friendly type as it is. I'll keep my guard up while I look around, but I have a feeling I'll be moving on soon enough regardless.

End log.
