Hunting Season - We Are Wrong About Them

The Tharoids have come to our home, igniting war and rage, burning our vessels and taking the lives of our people. We hunt them down for the better of our population and for the defence of all that we have achieved... but on what evidence? The Thargoid vessels we have been dealing with all this time turn out to be a variation of Thargoid known as "Cyclops", recently, they have been spotted by large crowds of destroyed ships belonging to both the Federation and the Empire. Now, in previous encounters, the Thargoids have not attacked or harmed the Empire in any matter, what changed this? We had not physically harmed one of their hive-minded like ships before. Non-the-less, due to the countless attacks supposedly made by these Thargoid beings, Merope is experiencing more and more traffic, as they now have anti-alien stock, including Xeno-scanners, able to scan and identify these Thargoid vessels, and also AX weaponry, explosive missiles specifically designed to hurt and kill, Thargoids. But my question is not how the tech works, not how we can progress the fighting, not even how we can win... but rather... are we fighting the right side?
As we know in the past, the Thargoids are not typically one variant... for a lack of better words, there are "good" Thargoids and then there are the "bad" Thargoids. Now, in the past, with previous Thargoid encounters, they looked different, like a hexagon-shaped disc that was turned immediately hostile if you were near, they would interdict you and there would be nothing you could possibly do to survive... most of the time. Several of these hexagon-shape vessels have been discovered to have crashed on planets around the Pleiades sector, proving that there are more than just these flower-shaped vessels we have scanned as "Cyclopes'". In turn, this means that these crashed ships are simply a very exotic variation of the Thargods we have been fighting, or they are the "bad" Thargoids we have known to turn hostile on contact.
The reason I call the Thargoids we are fighting now, to be the "good" Thargoids, is because the never attacked first... we did. They would interdict and scan us, then leave. If we drop in on one of them scanning destroyed human ships in the Pleiades sector, they scan us and go back to their business, eventually leaving afterwards. When we discover the destroyed ships, whether there is a Thargoid scanning them or nor, we have no primary source evidence that these Thargoids we have practically declared war upon, ever attacked these vessels... these "good" Thargoids have been hunted down by the "bad" Thargoids for years, and it's my belief that they have come to the space that we occupy, to hide, not invade. We attacked first, we trespassed upon their structures, we harvested and perused the Barnacles like an open store... we have no proof they ever harmed those ships... but they have proof we harmed them.
We are wrong to fight them, because when those that they hide from, find us... we'll be on our own.
