Last time I ran into Sara she persuaded me to hook up this remote logging module. That was a couple of months ago and it's been sitting in the storage locker ever since. It's not like there was any urgency about it, I'd been running without one for so long anyway and I'd never needed anything but my local log storage before. And I haven't lived this long by letting any nosy bugger who wants a peek into my logs browse away to their heart's content either. But Sara has this wonderful way of being persuasive when she puts her mind - and certain other attributes - to it."You're one of the good guys, Dave. I'd hate it if something bad happened and I never knew."
You know, I think she genuinely does care. I almost wished she didn't, because she's wasting her time. If she ever settles down she deserves better than a beaten up old wreck like me, so I'm not letting my mind go there. I've told her so but it hasn't cooled off her "welcome" when we run into each other any.
By the time we both undocked and went our separate ways again, she'd managed to extract a promise that I'd hook the thing up and since I've had nothing better to do for the last couple of hours while the local security goes collectively apeshit looking for me where I aint I've been sweating over a mollycirc tool and a debugger modifying its interface. Location data? You gotta be kidding me. No way. I fried that circuit right off the board. It means it won't tell me where anyone else is either, but that's ok. I can usually find the folks I need to without it. I messed with the software too. Any query into my financials is going to return a hardcoded zero and I've got a filter on the interface to the registry too so that not all my ships show up, only the ones that anyone might have seen in the last month or two. Never let them know all of what you've got or where you've stashed it, that way when they spring their nasty surprise you might have one to offer in return.
So, now that it's not a glaring security hole right into the guts of my operation, it's all hooked up and I'm recording a test entry. It will get transmitted once I cancel silent mode and at least she'll know I kept my promise.
