Desk of Commander Sterling: Famine in Marki

He stared at the large monitor, observing ship traffic to and from the station, the updated information on the local organizations laid bare for public. There was a famine in their system, he had felt a sense of responsibility when it started and urged some of the leaders to bring food into the system, but it wasn't enough. If He was going to take over this system he had to keep the population thriving and safe.If this is because of our association with the pirates it's even moreso our responsibility to do something..
He breathed deeply and opened his comms and messaged Commander Zacharia Starkiller, letting him know to post a formal mission for our pilots to aid in assisting relief for the famine in Marki.
Of course Commander Sterling, I'll post it right away
Night fell and morning came and he resumed his duties, in silence as he reviewed reports, checked any personal messages and caught up on local news. But it wasn't silent for long. The light on his console flashed, he opened the communication.
"Yes?"
"Ms. Haenn is here to see you Commander"
He sighed heavily, no forewarning, no scheduled meeting, she was likely pissed off about something.
"Send her in" he braced himself for a tirade, once more unto the breech dear friends.
She strode in still in her pilot's suit, helmet under one arm, out of breath, though rather than irritated, she looked worried. She whipped her head around to see that the door had closed before turning back and with a look of disgust pushing locks of sweaty hair from her face before she spoke.
"Well you look charming" he smirked
"Very funny" she scowled "People are dieing Icarus, probably due to our support of the Rats. What are we going to do about this?"
"Well I'm sure you noticed the mission notice I sent out"
"Of course, but-"
"So what exactly do you think I'm doing?"
"That's great and all, really, but do you think we should shift support? Or at least offer some sort of support to another organization alongside the rats to keep things like this from happening?"
he nodded slowly "Marki Trade ltd has put out missions for relief and our pilots are to help them out as well. We can't have them going under."
She nodded in agreement "Good, I hope you and the other leaders will be careful about our missions in the future to avoid things like this." she remarked
"We will do the best we can. Anything else?" he let the last word linger slightly, showing a level of impatience.
"No, that's all... I'll leave you to it" she inclined her head respectfully and turned on her heel.
He couldn't resist one last dig "Now get back to your missions"
She of course stopped in her tracks and momentarily opened her mouth to retort before narrowing her gaze and proceeding out the door. they both knew that's exactly what she was going to do.
He grinned smugly, turnabout was fair play. But, he supposed, at least she wasn't the type to avoid confrontation.
The famine was over within 24 hours, and only just over 1,000 lives lost. Any loss was too much to be sure, but to keep it this small with such an enormous population was a feat. He made it a point to congralute them all personally on their hard work. Over 180 runs between his leaders alone, he smiled, their tireless efforts to help their people gave him a renewed vigor.
