- COMMANDER'S LOG - 08-01-3306 0925 - CHONA - SMOOT STATION -I was planning on joining an expedition. There's so much to see in the galaxy. Testing myself in orbiting Sag-A*, visiting Colonia, seeing the edges of known space. It's something I've been interested in since I was a kid on Ackerman. Not that Dad ever gave my interest much support.
Then, I got a message from... you know who.
My dear boy:
I'm proud of you. Already, you've been making a difference. The deliveries of media material supporting the Princess have been vital to our efforts. People deserve to know the facts about the Federation, the Emperor, and everyone else scrambling for a foothold within the bubble. It may not feel very glamorous, but the work you're doing matters. You matter.
I wish I was writing just to say hello, or to invite you to a function where we could see one another. Unfortunately, these circumstances are not happy ones. One of my contacts, and a dear friend, was killed by Federation forces in Panorua. Her association with Aisling was tenuous. She was a journalist. She had actually been critical of 'her highness's vapid brand,' and I liked her honesty and bluntness. She was interdicted by one of Hudson's goons. I managed to get her logs from the transponder of her ship. She was calling for help and saying it was a civilian vessel. The Feds didn't care. They killed her anyway.
I know you're not violent. I know you don't want to get entangled in a war. But we need you. We need your skills.
Help make things right, Jason. I respect your ability to make your own choices. I know you'll do whatever you can.

She's got quite a sense of humor.
So no expedition. I've done more than enough mining lately to build up my own funds. I have to spend some of those to get a new ship for this, rather than continuing to tweak my current explorer. Turning sextons into swords, as it were. A Fer-de-lance will help me dispatch some of these Federation cutthroats quickly. In and out, hopefully without drawing too much attention.
Killing civilians is wrong. Trying to silence journalists is even worse.
She's right. I'm not violent. But this? This does mean war.
