Helaku's log - 20th of March 3310
The void.. It's vast and quiet. For most people it's too much to handle, but I'm one of those freaks who's tempted to go out and explore new places and life forms. As a musician I don't get bored out here, but at the same time it's the reason why I'm here. You need credits for living and being an artist haven't been making me rich at all. But back to the point. Art really helps harmonising your mind when you're feeling bad, it's like that best friend that holds your hand when things don't go your way.
But it's not the only thing keeping me sane here. I also have these books from the old world that I can input to my little speech device and listen to those stories while flying and analysing stuff. Oh how fascinating it is hearing what those people used to think and how their life was so much different. As species we humans haven't changed much really. The basics are pretty much the same even though we have reached the stars. It's just our mind and the needs we feed to it that makes most of our problems. We are very good at imagining things that never come true. Some of us even live in fear of such imaginary things which kind of stops the progress of that particular life.
Oh, what am I to talk about loneliness of space? I'm not alone here. Ever since I got a space ship that needs a crew member I've been travelling with an old friend of mine, Elianna Gruber. Her parents were both scientists, but she never wanted to go the family way. When her partner passed away she followed her dream and went for the pilot's life. When the Buckyball Racing Club organised the Kessel Run she was the first to sign up. Call it luck or destiny, but I was watching the race and cheered as she crossed the finish with the first batch of pilots. I had just returned from my first long exploration journey and was an owner of a new ship, so when I asked if she's interested she just packed up everything and joined my crew. And the rest is history.. Or her-story? So far she's earned around 410 million credits riding with me, so she's probably more than happy. I'll share some stories about those adventures later on.
Well back to the point then. As I was saying my art wasn't gonna give me the riches or even the upkeep for living. I've always dreamed of having my very own place or a fleet carrier so I had to figure out a way for it. The cost of such a thing is 5 billion credits plus the expenses. It's a huge amount and it seemed more like a dream than something realistic to have.
One day we were hanging around in the crook hub pilots lounge when a man came to our table. He seemed to have known Elianna's parents and while they were talking about that stuff I couldn't help noticing this guy's bank balance which was well over 10 billion credits. "I hope you don't mind me asking.." I interrupted their conversation and they both looked at me. "I feel rude for asking, but how come you have so much money? Were you born that way or..?" I asked. The man smiled and answered "Stratum Tectonicas". Me and Elianna looked at each other. "What is that?" she asked. "You know those exobiology devices they have started selling few years ago?" the man asked. We nodded in agreement. "If you analyze the biological things on planets you get paid for that data and samples. And if you go to places where no man have gone before and analyse the stuff found there you get a nice bonus." I bet we both looked very interested and I asked "You mean the places where I get bonus for first foot print on the planet?" The man smiled and continued "Yes exactly, but this bonus is much much much bigger. You get different amounts for different species, but there is this one particular thing called Stratum Tectonicas. I don't know why, but they pay a ridiculously big money for those samples. It's like almost a 100 million per sample." I interrupted his talk "you said 100... million... PER sample? Oh my.." He smiled and explained about his trip around the milky way with an asp explorer analysing stuff and getting back rich. My mind started wondering and to tell the truth I didn't listen to the rest of his story.
Back in the ship later on we talked about making such a trip and we both agreed of making one. "You gotta follow your dreams and make it happen!" I always told people so it was time to do just that. One year ago we had come back from a big exploration trip, so I had bought an Anaconda for this Exobiology trip. Maybe it was too much filling the fighter bays and 4 srv's, but hey you can always sell them back haha. And when we're travelling the stars there's no place to buy anything except from the Colony, but we weren't going that way. Of course that was not true, since we've been kind of away from the outer space for a while and since then humans have been spreading a lot outside of the bubble there are now several spots to visit on our travels. Mostly they are fleet carriers on some special locations, but it's much like visiting a station. Some of these have all the services anyone might need. Some are a bit lacking on those services, but hey it's better than all those rocky planets with nothing.
So here I am doing my new profession Exobiologist. It's been a long journey already and I've almost gathered the 5 billion credits for the fleet carrier, but we decided to continue the trip until I got around 7. Just to cover the expenses of owning such carrier and upgrading it for my needs. Right now we landed on another planet and it's time to take a ride with SRV as the scanners are giving signals of Stratus around here. Hope it's Tectonicas and I'm quite sure it is. This is a high metal content world after all and it seems to favor these kind of planets. Ride on I go! -->
