LOG #0002
       22 JUN, 3303
       NEW DAWN STATION
       CEOS SYSTEM

This log contains the details of the second voyage of the SS Widow's Son.
For contextual information, please refer to the seminal log of this journal, Log #0000.

DEPARTURE:  NEW DAWN STATION, CEOS SYSTEM
Initial Report (Notes)Pre-Flight Checklist (Notes)
There must be trouble in paradise.  I just got the call to abandon my post in Ceos and join the fight against the Empire.  Now we are talking.  The brass didn't make any promises, but there was mention of the possibility of being issued a new ship for these assignments.  For once, there will be no argument here.  If The Widow is to be mine after this is all said and done, I don't want any scratches on her anyway.
Shocking! All systems show normal function.  Big surprise on the 2nd voyage of a brand new ship.

New Dawn Station Control"Uh...Docking modules released, Cmdr.  SS Widow's Son, you are clear for departure."

ARRIVAL:  DAEDALUS STATION, SOL SYSTEM
Initial Report (Notes)Pre-Flight Checklist (Notes)
Ahh, the bustle of a Federal Station in the bubble.  They're like ants in a colony.  Look at them, rushing from place to place, focused only on what is right in front of them.  It's nice to be here legally, for a change--but observing them, it's easy to understand why people get drawn to smuggling.  It's so easy to stay off the radar when everyone's radar is so shortsighted...
This thing has GOT to go.  If I get some down time after the shipyards, I'm going to see what I can do.

Cmdr. Rikrat"Daedalus Command, this is the Federal Vessel SS Widow's Son, requesting to dock"

Daedalus Command"We see you.  Power down your engines, transmit your permit info, and submit your ship for inspection"

Cmdr. Rikrat"Complying now, command"

Daedalus Command"Everything looks good, Cmdr.  I wish all Federal ships were fitted with that I.S.T.I. module.  Makes this so much easier.  Cleared to land, proceed to dock #38."

Cmdr. Rikrat"Yeah, if only we were ALL prisoners..."

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
Cmdr. Rikrat[22 JUN 3303-06:27]  Man, I never had to get up this early when I was working as a, uh...freelancer.  Honestly, I'm too excited about seeing some action to complain though.  I've got a long trip ahead of me, but in the end, if these Feds set me up with some decent hardpoints and something to aim them at, I might just start to REALLY consider myself Federal Navy.

Cmdr. Rikrat[22 JUN 3303-08:52]  About 100ly out of Ceos at this point.  I'm so far into the middle of nowhere that even that old Mining Outpost is Sothis is starting to feel like "civilization".  I'm definitely going to have to hit the shops in Sol and expand the music data bank on this ship, too.  I don't know if I should blame Lakon Spaceways or the Federal Navy for what I'm listening to, but all I have to get me through this mission is some lonely chap named Chopin and his piano.

Cmdr. Rikrat[22 JUN 3303-09:14]  Jump, scan, repeat.  Jump, scan, repeat.  Jump, scan, repeat...  There has been no com activity since I left Ceos.  No contacts, no signals of any kind.  Just big, flaming balls of hydrogen and helium putting on a light show for the dead rocks dancing around them.

Cmdr. Rikrat[22 JUN 3303-09:49]  I'm just a few jumps out from my last update on this log--about halfway between Ceos and the Bubble.  My jump was disrupted by what appears to be a wreckage site of unusual and extraordinary size and density.  Everything has been shredded to the point of... it's all indistinguishable.  It's too massive to be a single ship; maybe multiple super-heavies?  There are no signs of life, no distress beacons, no salvage, and no discernible emissions readings.  Whatever happened here must have happened a long time ago.  Could whatever did this be the reason I have been recalled to the bubble?

Cmdr. Rikrat[22 JUN 3303-10:17]  2 jumps out of Sol.  Nothing to report other than a general uneasy feeling since leaving the wreckage site.

Cmdr. Rikrat[22 JUN 3303-10:51]  Just dropped into Sol System and I can already see Daedalus.  Contacts are lighting up everywhere.  Welcome to the Metropolis.  Com chatter seems to indicate a general sense of peace and prosperity.  It must be easy to feel safe with this many Corvettes hovering about.  Time to deliver this intel and see what they have planned for me at the shipyard.

Cmdr. Rikrat[22 JUN 3303-11:36]  I dropped the intel with the assigned contact with no issues.  In and out in under 5 minutes, as it should be.  Any time saved there was lost in the trek to the shipyard, which was clear on the other side of the station from the docks--as it should not be.  No idea how that even works.  How do the ships get from the shipyard to the docks?  There must be some crazy engineering going on in this place.  Anyway, annoyances aside, it was worth the trip.  The shipwright showed me a few combat models and then handed me my orders.  So long as nothing changes, it looks like I am to report for combat training later this week.  It looks like we will be training in Eagle Mk II's, but depending on my marks, I might get issued a Fer-De-Lance at the end.  Now THAT is what I'm talking about.  I'm going to ignore how bad things must be for them to consider giving that much firepower to a convict with only 2 missions under his belt.  I don't know what we are up against, but I like my chances with a fully fitted FDR.  It looks like I will be here for some time, but at the moment, I like the way these guys operate.

Do you like it?
