Cmdr. Rikrat[17 JUN 3303-18:47] Nothing seems as tedious and trivial as maintaining Captain's Logs, but since part of my Federal mandated Naval service is a requirement to keep this crap up, I might as well let them know how I really feel.
On 17 June 3303, I departed New Dawn Station in the Ceos System after much delay. Station Command was able to approve my departure request in under 5 minutes, but prior to that I was subjected to 30 minutes of bureaucratic, Pre-Flight documentation and approval processes that could put a barnacle surveyor to sleep.
Once I was released from the docking modules, I quickly discovered that my glorious benefactors had placed a governing system on both my throttle and landing gear controls. These seem to disengage entirely once I have exited the station. I guess those bastards don't want their newest play toy to represent the Navy poorly by speeding inside a residential area. 20 years is a long way away, but I'm going to have to get some verification that all of this nanny-tech will be removed from the Widow's Son before it is fully relinquished to me. And don't you worry, I still got to have my fun. The second I passed through the entry gate I retracted the landing modules and starting spamming the Overdrive boosters. Mass lock is a hell of a thing, and you can't expect a self-respecting man like myself to just sit and wait for the base thrusters to struggle though it. Haha, damn--I'm getting a mini rush just thinking about it again.
Cmdr. Rikrat[17 JUN 3303-19:07]On the bright side, this Asp Explorer is a MASSIVE upgrade over that old Type-6 I was flying back in Nanomam; better shields, better armor, bigger fuel tank, and a higher max speed. Hell, it's even got an extra seat in case I find myself a lady friend out here. I'm, um, unsure what Federal Naval regulations are regarding that last bit...
Cmdr. Rikrat[17 JUN 3303-20:35]At any rate, the Sothis System is just one jump away from Ceos. What a great, fancy mission for The Widow's maiden voyage. 128t cargo capacity, and what's my job? Hauling data on a big empty ship. What a waste of money making space, but hey, at least I can hit that max speed faster with such a light load.
Once I hit Sothis, I had to cruise for a few minutes to find the mining outpost. There was no sign of hostile ships, or any contacts at all for that matter, between New Dawn Station and The Sothis Mining Outpost. Textbook Federal Intelligence failure, if you ask me. I was REALLY looking forward to those hostile ships.
Mining Outpost Command greeted me as an ally upon arrival. Everybody in systems controlled by this "Federation Unite!" bunch seem to think I am some dandy do-gooder, sent from Federal Heaven to usher them into a new era of prosperity. If only they knew my past...
Once docked, I met with Londean Gretch (who was apparently named by a drunk Thargoid). I transferred the mission data to her Tabtech device and radioed for permission to get the hell out of dodge. It was not hard to fight the urge to look around a bit before departure. If old' Londean was any indication of what I should expect here in that department, the ongoing search for a lady friend could wait.
Cmdr. Rikrat[17 JUN 3303-22:24] Made it back to New Dawn Station in the Ceos System without issue. Nothing of concern to report. Overall, a pretty lackluster mission. If they don't send some action my way soon, I'm going to start cracking up. Oh well, better make the best of it in the mean time. I've heard there is rowdy little bar somewhere just above the Maintenance Deck. God, I do love these rural, Bernal Spheres. These Spacebillys sure know how to have a good time.
