Log # 33 Distant worlds 2 : waypoint 6, Sagittarius A, Thargoid attacks increasing in human space
24 Feb 2019(Wettoast) Wanda Fersegi
Inbound to waypoint 6, and the end of stage 1Just over a month in now.... Feels like forever since we left Pallaeni and the Sol system . Ill say I was quite scared of going into a lightning storm in space as for one, I had not seen one before and two, according to other accounts it messes with shield charge. However after watching another ship plunge in and come out the other side I decided to brave the malestrom for myself. If being thrown around in a large windstorm is your cup of tea then I found your go to. The constant discharges of lightning didn't help my confidence either, some charges coming close enough to touch the shields and disrupt the heads up display. My greatest fear at the time was loosing my bearings to find my way out and smash headfirst into one of the crystaline formations and vent the cockpit. One plunge in and lightning was everywhere ! The light from the surrouing galaxy was nearly blotted out completely, pushing me to find my way out as quickly as possible. There are pockets which are especially intense characterized by smaller constant flashes of lightning within, but I managed to navigate around them as I was in no mood to make this already pure madness adventure any more exciting.
A few hundred lightyears to cover before waypoint 6. ...Fine .
Waypoint 6
Dropping in on this miracle of nature could almost be justified by the nightmare of the drop point position. If the exclusion zone of a rapidly approaching black hole doesn't get you, then the large exclusion zone and ejection tail of a white dwarf might . After the shock settles you get confronted with some prime examples of how the universe is out to purely confuse you. Orbits so nonsensical that you can land on one of the nonsensical moons to consider how nonsensical it is while it should have been torn to pieces by the giant looming gas giant it is within spitting distance of ages ago. All that within plain view of another gas giant being thrown violently around a sun that requires no sped up footage to watch move . I've since moved on from the 6th waypoint but I know of a few still remaining in the area, probably just as enthralled and confused with the system as I am.
Sagittarius A
Finally at the center of everything again. Visited many time before but everytime I drop by it feels like the first . Everything in this galaxy, everyone we know , aliens that hate us, our homes , orbit this giant black hole. I know with the construction of a new nearby starport bringing civilization even closer may take away from the feel of isolation and being alone, knowing that a small bastion of humanity isn't too far away considering what spaceflight technology is today, it all still literally revolves around this thing. A stop along the way of the 3302 distant world expedition, I can see why it was chosen again. Passing by one of the largest black holes in existence in order to see us off on the trip to the far edge of the galaxy. Off to where absolutely nothing exists at the far edge.
According to organization news, waypoint 6 was the end of the first stage. The main fleet is now approaching the center and yet we are but a month in. I'll place credits on it, many of us will loose it bigtime once we get into the final stretch of this journey. A major effort should be getting underway soon to compete the starport 3 lightyears of from Sagittarius A, updating its services to more suit the repair and restocking needs of those extreme deep space travelers.
Oh, before I forget. My parents shot me a message about the increasing thargoid attacks after a bit of a lull in their destructive activity recently, starting to consider a relocation from the Nanomam system to somewhere in Colonia, my uncle would join them and leave Montreal in the Sol system for Colonia as well. I can't in good conscience tell them to hold off and wait, because once I had a look at galnet for myself I felt sick. " Wanda, we're using your apartment on Titan City for a while to wait with my brother and see if this blows over ." F***. Don't get yourself killed dad ......
