Battle for Earth:
16 Dec 2024Apolloz
Been flying for over 8 years but have not really been engaged fully with the Thargoids apart from a few skirmishes (out of curiosity when they first appeared). Mostly I stayed out of their way and they stayed out of mine.
That all changed when they attacked earth, that’s a line that cannot be crossed, so I reluctantly got involved and spent a good few days practising combat tactics for fighting the Thargoids in combat zones around space station for repair\ rearm etc.
This experience showed me just how rusty my combat was and also highlighted how bad the Guardian weaponry was (already unlocked years ago), its all very well being immensely powerful but I just wasn’t prepared to how inefficient they were in actual combat.
The Constant overheating and sluggish responsiveness were an incredible hindrance to my survivability.
I can only surmise this was due to retrofitting alien technology onto primitive earth ships that were clearly technically inferior to what the guardians must have had.
With that in mind I changed the weaponry to the Aegis enhanced AX MultiCanons which seemed to make the fighting more bearable, especially with the scouts. Though the bigger Thargoid variants needed a lot more effort to overcome and after many hours practise (and with the help of the Xeno scanner) this weaponry did a reasonable job of damaging the extruded hearts as I dodged the constant barrage of caustic missiles, magnetic attacks and Scouts.
Next on the list was to attempt a Titan bombing attack, this was a completely different experience which started out on my first attempt realising that every piece of guardian technology needed to be removed as they instantly become inactive when entering Titan Space damaging the ship in the process.
I later learned that Aegis had engineered a solution for that, but it required a visit to a live titan to get the material I needed to shield the Guardian tech from damage.
So after removing all the Guardian Tech from the ship, I needed to make it more survivable which needed a lot of reengineering of core modules to make it run cool, then I added some utilities and caustic sync modifications to get the ship through the caustic cloud and to the Titan in one piece.
A few days practise and I managed to perform a couple of successful bombing runs, allowing me to damage the core.
As pleased as I am with my progress and from the participation numbers it would seem that Humanity was winning, though if Titan Cocijo goes down at earth what will the fallout be to our birth place?
The real elephant in the room is how I feel about this campaign.
I find myself continually pondering when the Thargoids first made contact with Humanity, were they even aware of our presence?
Were the Thargoids inherently peaceful more than content to share the galaxy with us or did they see as some basic form of Fauna just to be ignored?
Could this whole thing just be a big misunderstanding between two very different types of lifeforms that have failed to communicate or have we brought this up on ourselves?
Humanity is after all littered with an aggressive and bloody history which from our birth place we have taken to the stars. Perhaps the Thargoids have been observing us for centuries and decided that we are a highly aggressive and violent invader that needs to be stamped out like a cancer?
Today I make my final bombing run to the Titan, I’m committed to defend earth and will do so with my life, if necessary, but it’s also my sincere hope that we do find some common ground with the Thargoids. They are such a magnificent species, which even in battle they display such wondrous elegance that I hate to think humanity could be responsible for wiping out such an amazing lifeform.
