Rough Landing

Commander Bambi entered this Galaxy in unfortunate circumstances, such that is common in today’s climate, with the ability to travel to any point imaginable within our Galaxy providing you have enough Credits. It has made it easy for the civilised, and uncivilised, amongst us to branch out and start anew. The expectation was for it to usher in a new Golden age of expansion in which humans colonised the farthest regions learning, exploring, understanding, and answering the greatest mysteries and unknowns about our existence, and the confines within which we exist. Unfortunately, that was not to happen.
Yes, we have made discoveries that we could never have imagined, and learned things we previously never even comprehended. But at what cost? The rich have gotten richer, the poor are beyond poor, and those who could take control did.
Whilst in the centre of The Bubble life is flourishing, and yes, they are experiencing what could be considered a Golden Age, it isn’t really all that Golden. It’s only because they choose to ignore the problems of the greater galaxy, the problems they created, and have refused to resolve.
The farther reaches of The Bubble are a desolate wasteland, with small colonies dotted around systems. Out here, the Super Powers really have no say in anything. These systems are controlled by the ruling Minor Faction. These factions may claim to pledge towards one of the Super Powers, but this is rarely due to an alignment in philosophy and more out of convenience. The Super Powers don’t watch over the Minor Factions to make sure they are working “in line” with their beliefs; they just want the system to be under their name.
So what does all this have to do with our Commander?
Well, Bambi, as he was known before he got his Commander status, grew up in on an orbital station called Dyr Station, located in Majhia about 200 ly from Sol. All that is known about how Bambi came to grow up here is as follows.
During 3278, a vessel was docking at Dyr Station. It was a beaten and battered Type 6 class vessel, showing the bare metal of its battle damaged hull. The ship was transporting refugees from one of the neighbouring systems during the non-stop conflicts which plague the Anarchy systems. As the ship was aligning itself above its docking bay, a missile came hurtling through the starport’s mail slot dealing the fatal shot to the ship's Power Plant.
As the ship crashed into the landing pad its cargo hatch broke off providing an escape for some lucky refugees.
The ship crew, who were waiting by the landing pad to restock, refuel, and repair the vessel before its untimely demise, helped where they could. Bambi was found amongst the wreckage being protected by two adults cradling him in a vain attempt to save him. The two adults had no chance. Neither did the child. But through some luck of numbers, statistics, and probability this child had survived. His deafening cries were welcomed by one of the crewman who quickly took him to the Medbay to see if anything could be done to rescue him.
The crewman claimed the child as his own when he took him to the Medbay, as he wouldn’t be treated without someone to pay for the medical care needed. Upon reaching the Medbay it appeared the child had suffered no more than a few scratches. The crewman, known as Atticus, took it upon himself to protect Bambi. He knew that if he was handed over to the refugee centre he would likely die of starvation due to being on his own.
So this is where things really began: with a broken family unit, and Bambi, a child refugee with no home, no parents, and no comprehension of where in the universe he was.
