Pegasi Slave Rebellion [2] Railroad face to face with Black Omega - and the massacre in Wongo
17 Sep 2017Daman
The first war ignited by the railroad in Black Omega space has taken place. It wasn't a place of our choosing - Wongo is a small system with a tiny population and a single station. Our work there was much more effective than we realised, and as a result of an Omega counter the situation became inflamed to the point of war.
Still, there are only so many choices you can make by your own hands, and others you have to accept being made for you, especially in conflict.
There was no chance that we would win this first war. A small covert outfit like the Railroad is an insurgency, not a conventional force. Hit and run, and work elsewhere while the enemy is bogged down.
That said, we needed to gauge what we are up against.
I took it upon myself to provoke Omega operatives and their supporters using comms channels. It was more successful than I could have imagined. A simple couplet broadcast into space and a few of them were up in arms.
'There was a faction called Black Omega.....
......And then there wasn't'
It seemed to have its desired effect. Our operatives took stock of all the commanders they could see in and out the combat zones around Wongo. Even some of their supporters, incensed by our attempts at bad poetry, came out for the fight.
I myself came face to face with their second in command while leaving Laplace station. I was docked - they were waiting to take my docking space. Face to face with evil.
Actually - more like cockpit to cockpit - but their FDL did look somewhat pirate like and evil. Maybe that was just my imagination.
With a small chuckle and smile I flew off - only to be shot in the back by the FDL.
Heh - what to expect from a lowlife pirate in their backyard. Note to self - no normal rules of engagement in anarchy space. Even the stations lack integrity.
Black Omega propaganda advertised the event as chasing off railroad terrorists - well, history has always shown that one man's freedom fighter is another person's terrorist. Though its somewhat odd that a pirate faction can consider others terrorists. I guess the shoe is on the other foot for the time being.
Obviously now they know my identity. Now I need to tread more carefully - need to keep an eye on my comms channel while flying their space.
The sacrifices made by the fighters in Wongo were huge - Omega has hit hard with a full effort to extinguish any hopes. Commander Brown was out there fighting hard, but the waves of Omega fighters were too much for their efforts. Battered, even commander Brown had to retreat.
Though I know this is just the first feint in a long, protracted and painful conflict against Omega - tears rolled down my face as I think of those who are giving up their lives for this struggle.
I consoled myself by flying off to a newly liberated station - this time within Omega space.
Yes - while we ignited the war in Wongo, elsewhere we were fighting a war to liberate a slave market from another pirate faction operating within Omega space.
As I took off - my ship's computer showed me that our liberated station no longer sold slaves of any kind. My heart danced - this is what this struggle is all about.
I landed at the station and headed to the market. And saw the slave trade still operating. Grabbing the station controller, I demanded an explanation. This was not our deal.
Shrugging, he explained that the system was still under Omega control. This was no excuse to me.
Angry, I turned away, holding in my frustration. [BREAKING THE 4th WALL - anyone who knows why this may be the case - can PM me. Thanks]
Heading back to my ship, plans begin to form in my mind. No rest for the righteous. Or me for that matter.
