Eagle's Landing...and Ain't That Just The Way?

Finally. At 0830 Galactic Time I lumbered into the Eagle Sector and set down at Eagle's Landing. What a sight for sore eyes. This was easily the longest leg so far, and I really pushed myself for that last 80 jumps. I hardly stopped to take a picture, much less gather a few specs cartographic data. I just wanted to get there. I caught myself playing chin basketball the last few leaps. Even more annoying is that as I pulled into a hover over the base, both large pads were taken and it seemed like forever before one of them finally opened up. I was seriously in danger of just falling asleep poised ever so daintily above the base. It would have been funny-not-funny if I had, only to be awakened to the sounds of my ship disintegrating around me because it ran our of fuel, doing a crash-and-burn on the base. All's well that ends well, I guess.
The Ceti Azeria sure is purty, with so much paint peeled off her, huh? And, this time, no docked repairs needed. I had fewer neutron stars to get goosed by, so my AFMS was handily able to heal my FSD each time. And it didn't cost me a lot to restock it, either (although I could have synthesized what I needed if it came down to it). Only a couple of stops left before I reach the Core systems and look to upgrading this monster. Oh, and picking up a new Chieftain to send back home.
When I woke up this evening--no, I did no set an alarm and don't you dare judge me--I was catching up on the latest waves and heard just how serious things are getting with the Thargoids. According to reports, they have now crossed into the Core for real. And Colonia is dramatically ramping up defense there! Here I am, almost back to the Core, and now it looks like we may be getting a lot of upgrades, ships and weapons back home. Good grief, isn't that just the way? You bite the bullet and man up for a trip back to civilization so you can upgrade your ship, only to find you may not have needed to in the first place. It's not right, I tell you, it's not right. The all-call has been going out for so much help to supply materials and equipment needed for a number of upgrade efforts around Colonia, and it may be weeks before I can even head back! I hate it when things are happening at home and I'm not around to help. Sure, I know there are plenty of capable commanders back home who can take care of things, and it's not like the missions aren't going to get done just because I'm not there. But I want to help...and I'm not there.
I'm going to try to rest up one more day and then I'm on to the next stop. I've got to press on, keep my eye on the prize.
