A Sorry Turn Of Events

This damned Krait will be the death of me.  I've almost reached the end of my rope with it.  Deciding to press on and try to finish out the engineering upgrades on it, I set to the task of acquiring the materials I'd need to top everything off--particularly the power plant, power distributor and the engines.  I decided I could get quite a few of the more exotic materials by doing a little bounty hunting around a compromised nav beacon.  You find a lot of materials are what's left after blowing a bounty out of the sky, and you can make a fair amount of credits in the process.

My stupid mistake was deciding to do this in my only partially-engineered Krait.  I was actually doing quite well and had a lot of the needed materials collected.  But then along came what appeared to be a heavily engineered Python.  Okay, so I know my own Python is a better ship than my Krait, but I thought that if I'm going to decide if I should ultimately keep the Krait and sell the Python, this would be as good a chance to get some data.  I had the Python down to 17%, although I was down to 40%.  It finally got down to a good old-fashioned slugfest.  We were nose-to-nose, just hammering away at each other.  He got down to 8%, I was at 28%.  That's when my throat closed up and my heart fell out.  I guess I didn't notice my Point Defense was no longer functioning.  Or something.  The next thing I new, I got the tell-tale warning of an incoming missile, looked at my scope just quickly enough to see it coming right up my tailpipe.  In an instant, 28% turned into 0% and I'm spinning free in my escape pod, headed for a re-buy.  I had enough to cover the insurance....barely.

So, here I am, down to just half a million credits and tiptoeing gingerly around Colonia.  I've collected most of the non-ore materials I need (or can do so via material traders), so now I'm concentrating on a lot of SRV work to get the Selenium and other ores I need.  To play things even safer, I may switch to my Sidewinder, which I normally keep for short-distance joyrides with zero risk to my bank account.  I'll need to hit up some of my high-rep factions for some better-paying missions.

What a friggin' day.
Do you like it?
