Commander's Personal Entry - November 9th, 3303

The shake down of the Microscopium is still rough at best. From what I can tell, this ship, unlike the others, is an absolute heat magnet.I have noticed on several occasions when engaging the Frame Shift Drive, that our heat levels rise anywhere from 78 to 93 percent.
Once we enter Super Cruise or drop out of Witch Space, the levels plummet immediately. I'm told that this is an inherent design issue, and even
with all of the engineered systems, the ship continues to do this.
I must admit that I'm not used to this, as the Aurora Sagittarius and Widowmaker do not do this, however neither are a passenger ship, nor are they as
large as the Microscopium. So for now, I'll watch the levels, and when leaving Witch Space I'll have to remember that you can't hot jump this thing, like you can the Aurora Sagittarius or Widowmaker.
On a good note, we did do a combat run in a wing. Our new pilot, Dan Baxter, was hired on board as a novice fighter pilot. Granted he only takes 6% of our total profit earnings, Dan has held his own in our fighters. His mother was in the Federal Security Systems and was always traveling. So space and fighter combat is nothing he's a stranger to.
Dan has also been helping aboard the Microscopium, being engaged as part of the crew. I was extremely impressed with his educational background, despite the fact he grew up in a military family. While our current ship is not a battle cruiser, but more of an exploratory vessel, we do take on board families who have children.
While teachers are hard to find from Space Port to Space Port, Dan has taken it upon himself to act as somewhat of a surrogate teacher. He's even conducted classes with the children, teaching them everything from basic studies, to engineering schematics. I believe that Dan Baxter will fit in just fine with our crew.
On another note, while transporting passengers to different sight seeing locations in different systems, I have been contemplating configuring the Microscopium for a long range exploration mission. While we do enjoy calling the Avalon system home for the time being, the explorer still calls out to me, begging me to journey among the stars as we have such a ship that will allow us to do just that.
Well tomorrow is yet another day, and it's getting late here. I think I will once again head on up to the observation deck and enjoy one last cup of coffee before I turn in. I have to say, besides piloting the Aurora Sagittarius (which was our main ship for quite some time), this Beluga Liner is beginning to grow on me, and the crew. Plenty of room for everyone, and one of the most sophisticated ships we have had the pleasure to set foot in.
I also have to say that I am very proud of our crew and my fiancee and first officer, Trysha Sagittarius, for all the work they have done to keep things running smoothly. A Commander could not ask for a better crew for his ship. Until the next entry...
