I have decided to outfit the Cassini for mining. We flew from Avalon to the Pan system a few days ago, and so far this ship has exceeded any and all expectations as a mining ship. It seems that the Type-10 Defender is a well rounded ship. Not only was it designed to hunt the Thargoids, but it's cargo capacity is one of the highest among the large ships. We have a capacity of 384 tons, plus 10 more tons in the refinery which is a Class A module.
We traveled to our favorite location near here, LHS 2661, to the 6th planet which has pristine rings. So far we have been pretty successful looking for Painite, Palladium, and Platinum. I put 2 class 2 mining lasers on her, along with 2 class 1 mining lasers to get the job done. Even at sub-super cruise speeds, this ship handles better than a Type-9 Heavy.
We've made roughly 2 runs, and having run out of limpets, we've had to return to the starport here to restock. I'm fairly certain we can make some serious money here, if we put our minds to it and hunt down the right materials.
For now, I have returned the Cassini to the stardock and am going to call it a night. It's 2am here now, and with a ship this large and this expensive, I can't afford to fall asleep piloting it.
We will continue on tomorrow blasting away at the rocks that orbit LHS 2661-6, and hopefully we can come home with a full cargo hold of materials to sell here at Xiaoguan Orbital.
