We have arrived here at Kipling Orbital after making 7 jumps from NGalia where we were helping with the community goals for the week.
Upon arrival here, I dispatched the U.S.S. Discovery to dock here as well, figuring that if I needed to run more passengers for these evacuation missions, that she would work nicely.
Our course is to the Asterope System, where we will be docking up with the Rescue Ship for Copernicus Observatory. This will put the Cassini to the test as the heat in these stations can get rather nasty. So far, she has held together rather well doing the cargo missions for the Community Goal in Ngalia, but as an evacuation ship, this is yet to be seen. Don't get me wrong, the Type-10 frame is a great space frame, and even though in super cruise it's not very maneuverable, as long as you put dirty drive grade 5 on the thrusters, you're good. Sure she's no Beluga Liner, or Orca, but where she lacks maneuverability, she makes up with durability.
I have offloaded all non-essential pieces of the original loadout, and even sold the cargo racks (no worries, I can always buy new ones for the same price I sold them for), and my last move will be dropping the shield generator and replacing it with a 6E Economy Cabin for the ability to carry extra passengers. Besides, our shields aren't going to stop the heat in these stations.
One bit of curiosity I have found is that during refueling around stars, the Type-10 never breaks above 65%. This isn't basking, this is during actual flight, which none of our other ships in the fleet can even hold up to this. So my intention of using the Cassini to do the evacuation missions, while she doesn't hold as much passengers as say the Baba Yaga (our Anaconda Class), I feel she may react better to the intense heat we will be facing. Again, all in theory, but we will see soon enough.
Well I have to close as we will be departing for the Rescue Ship for Copernicus Observatory. More later after we help the stranded in Asterope.
