Too Much to Drink

Too much to drink. That’s the only possible explanation. I never would have shared this without being drunk.
Luigi dropped by today for another beer or two and we talked about some good times in the Navy and the Security Force.
When I reached my limit he said Guido, his muscle, would watch the bar tonight. Luigi had some Centauri Mega Gin and didn’t want to drink alone. That’s not something I can afford and I’d always wanted to try some. Boy does that stuff have a kick.
We talked a bit more about the service. Eventually I told him about how I made Commander and was assigned to a squadron of Imperial Eagles.
We decided to go to the Star and Ribbon Lounge on William Sargent Vision in the Synteini system. That’s a real class place. They had a dice game going, and everyone had to take off their jackets and roll up their sleeves so nobody could hide any dice.
Station Security raided the place while we were playing. They had a tip that a mule was going to pass some heroin to a distributor.
All our jackets were lined up on hooks near the table, some civilians, three lieutenants (my wing mates) and two commanders. They found the horse in one of the commander’s jackets.
Mine.
No finger prints, no DNA, clean financial record, the case wasn’t as strong as they wanted. It got even weaker when my friends said it was their idea to hold my wetting down at the Star and Ribbon. I couldn’t be the one they expected to catch.
Security told me they suspected the other commander. They think the mule picked the wrong jacket, mine with the shiny new stripes instead of the older one with tarnished stripes. It should have been an easy ID; the place was a bit rich for the run of the mill sailor. But this was a special occasion.
The station turned me over to the Navy and said don’t come back.
The Navy had to take some action. They got a big black eye over the raid on a high-price bar and lots of publicity.
I can’t complain about the court martial, even though they dismissed me. The junk was in my coat and they can’t allow any hint of drug use in the fleet.
I sure wouldn’t want a junkie on my wing.
