The Long Slow Journey Home

23 Jul 2019Dragon_Fire613
I'm not  sure what to report or write here, since every day has turned into the same relentless routine.  Jump, scan, maybe map, repeat.  I've limited my travels on the return trip from Sag A* to only the 3 star types that are most likely to contain Earth-Likes, but from my observations I seem to be finding them at about the same rate.  Water worlds on the other hand, are MUCH more common on the return trip.  So maybe that's something.  My star map tells me I've already collected over half a billion in data, and I still have 7000 ly to go.

Speaking of which, I crossed the 10k ly threshold during my travels yesterday.  So far it has been 3 weeks since I began the pilgrimage, and I expect to conclude the journey right smartly near the 1 month mark.  Interestingly enough, browsing the Galnet recently I came across some interesting articles on a technique to use the radiation jets of neutron stars to massively boost FSD range, jumping from one neutron to another.  It sounds fascinating, and dangerous; not something I'm willing to try on my current expedition, carrying as much value in data as I am, as well as my objectives demand the conventional travel method.  Something for the future;  some experimentation may be in order.   It could be very handy on certain expeditions in the far reaches of the galaxy... even though I must admit the whole business seems a bit like cheating the laws of physics.

The thing I most look forward to upon my return, is people.  After the many long months of having my stowaway hireling on board, I'm kind of regretting ejecting him out of the cargo hatch right now.  It would have been nice to have some company, but in the end I'm not willing to share my profits for some worthless lazy crew member.  Good riddance to him;  my squad mates on Galnet will have to do for now.

As to my discoveries; what used to be exciting and photo-worthy has now just become... just another discovery.  The more interesting ones of recent note were a system with 2 Earth-Likes in close orbit of one another, and another system with 2 terra-formable water worlds orbiting an ammonia world.  Also found some terraformables in orbit around gas giants, which seemed to be highly irregular, but there they were.

I'll post some more photos of the expedition soon, but for now I'm going to get some rest.  Dragon out.
