Home but Not the Same...

I returned to the Bubble nearly a week ago now, to much fanfare and an official escort from the squadron.... ok well I told them there was really no need but one good friend insisted on seeing me safe to Lee Orbital, and so she did. We met up and shared some stories and photos, and then it was back to business as usual. I dropped off another 800mil in exploration data and then set my sights on Professor Palin to finally engineer my thrusters all the way to the maximum.... only to realize Palin was unavailable due to the recent Thargoid attacks! All that work only to face yet another delay. Such is life. There is plenty of other work to be done, int he meantime, and I'm sure Palin will get back on his feet before too long.
One thing I do notice upon being home again, is that the pilgrimage has definitely changed me. Hopping 200ly across the bubble now seems a trivial thing, completed in a few moments, instead of some grand journey prior to the trip. I also am quite bothered when I hop into these systems in the bubble to find them inhabited and explored already. Humanity (my own kind, yes I realize) often seems like a virus that has infected the galaxy, as we continue to multiply, consume, and spread... multiply, consume, and spread... when does it all end? I'm sure the answer is, when we run out of the resources required to sustain us... but that begs the greater question, will that happens, will there be anything else left????
I itch to go back into the black and my quiet and solitude, where every new turn was created for mine own eyes alone. For now, I'm home. Tomorrow? Who knows...
