The kitbag slowly slid from her grip and thudded softly on the floor. She breathed in the smell of polymers and fabric. It didn’t matter that this wasn’t a brand new ship. It just mattered what ship it was.
She had got shot of the humble Sidewinder as soon as she has been able to do so. She’d persevered with the Adder; indeed, she’d been a bit philosophical when it came to trading it in. But she would not miss the resonance of the attitude thrusters that had given her throbbing headaches and made her almost contemplate giving the whole pilot thing up.
She slowly sank into the pilot’s chair. Finally, her very own Faulcon DeLacy Cobra Mark Three. A good three-quarters of her bank account had gone on this thing, and she’d nearly been sick with anxiety when she seen that the insurance was ten times that of the Adder. It was a risk. But it felt right.
One hand gently fished out the cat-stone from the belt pouch. She raised it to her face and pressed it to her lips. She inhaled and the other hand reached out to brush lightly across the contours of the Cobra’s dash. She’d struggled for ages to think of a name. And she’s chosen one, because it was a bit daft but it made her smile.
