Entry 7. Shadow 2.0

The time had come, while directing my SRV away from the “crash site” I had a somewhat emotional moment thinking back to the first day I had seen “my” ship. Only when I parked the SRV under Shadow and watching it ascend into the freshly painted and branded Shadow 2.0. After spending a few days collecting odds and ends from the interior of my Sidewinder, being sure to triple check all of the hidden nooks and crannies, while purging as much information as I could to save on the transfer fees. Shadow had spent most her processing time dedicated to altering logs, travel data, and making a dumb clone of herself. It was settled on what we would do, and how to do it. The dumb clone would be staying with the sidewinder while Shadow was overseeing the initiation of the new ship and fine tuning the Eagle to be our new home. There were a lot of things that needed to occur on the technical side that I had no idea how to do. The broker had assured me that my investment would not be wasted and his crew would make sure everything was up to par before I took delivery.
There were some good people out in the black. I had found a broker in the shipyard that had helped me decide on what I was going to need in my next ship. I decided on a brand new Eagle with a class 1F burst laser, class 1G gimballed burst laser, and class 1B missile rack mounted on the top. Certainly not a Goid killer, but would help me out in the next venture I was itching to undertake. He even threw in a kill warrant scanner, like I said there are some good people still out here.
While Shadow oversaw the new ship I had to set about my tasks. I certainly could not trade in my Sidewinder as I would have ended up in more trouble than it was worth. So I had devised a plan as to send the ship out with a bang, literally. I and the dumb AI would travel outside of the scan range of the base authorities, away from the common paths that pilots coming in would take coming to the base and crash the ship while I was safely tucked away in my SRV. Once the target location was chosen I would land, deploy the SRV and remote pilot the ship to its final landing. Now the dumb AI would try to correct the path but instead of performing a safety lockout and land the ship itself it would actually not deploy the landing gear and correct speeds as if the gravity was nonexistent. Therefore it would slam into the surface at a lot faster rate than the ship could handle. This way the ship would be rendered inoperable causing an overload in the power drive and causing an explosion. When the crash site is found and scanned it would show a malfunction upon landing that would correspond to the original information that was sent to my ex-employer.
While me and Shadow, the real Shadow, finalized the last bit of bits and pieces we needed to before we separated for a little while. I had her do a final check of the ship for my sake.
“Shadow how are you looking in there?” As I slapped the side of the hull.
“Commander this is definably better than the sidewinder.” She said, and for an AI sounded extremely upbeat.
“Just remember not to get to comfortable until we get clearance to leave.” I laughingly said. I am sure the ground crew had some questions based on the way they were glancing at me. I must have looked mad talking to a ship, they couldn’t hear the other side of the conversation anyways.
“Commander I hardly need to be “reminded” of tasks that need to be performed. I am, after all a complex…”
“That’s enough, just call it…..a human condition.” And with that I walked away for the last ride in the Sidewinder.
