Log 1 - A New Chapter

I come from 4 generations of miners, grew up on Anamundi in the Delkar system and Have been part of my family's successful freelance mining business, based out of Caillie Landing, for 24 years. Our primary client being Federal Reclamation Co. My mother and father died 4 years ago when their mining ship was destroyed by pirates, the Fed security force getting there just as the oxygen in the escape pods ran out. The pods were damaged in the explosion and apparently, they were late on the scene due to high activity in a local extraction zone. My sister took their deaths badly, moving to Imperial space, her current whereabouts is unknown to me. Leaving the business solely in my hands I carried it on hiring mechanics and co-pilots, expanding the fleet, dabbling in farther flung trade and more recently undertaken deep core mining contracts which has been very profitable.
However now I have some wealth and ships, I keep feeling I need more than money. I have dreams of the black, the void, the stars, like it is calling me. The mysteries of the universe, undiscovered worlds and phenomenon, alien life, what else is out there? The Distant Worlds expedition captured my imagination several years ago, watching holofeeds and all the statistics come back from those brave intrepid explorers. I then started obsessively following the Galnet news stories regarding the unknown artefacts, the generation ships and the ruins that were being discovered. I had to make a change to the direction of my life.
After having spent nearly a year getting my affairs in order, closing down contracts, selling assets and recently improving my new ship "Voids Flame". I am embarking on a new chapter in my life as an explorer.
My first expedition is Distant Worlds 2. A massive undertaking with the intention of travelling to the famous Beagle Point on the other side of the galaxy but along the way constructing a station at the core to serve as a refuge for explorers and to study the super massive black hole at Sagitarus A*. I have also signed up as a miner to help in this huge endeavour, my experience hopefully being able to serve the fleet well.
The launch of a 10,000-strong fleet is set for today. The nerves are here as they should be, worrying I have forgot something or my ship isn’t as ready as she could be, but that is mixed with excitement and eagerness to get underway.
Wish us luck o7
