Death of a crew member

Last night was a bad one.It all started like so many other bounty hunting assignments.
And this time even better I thought. CMDR Angelis Death would
join me along with another pilot, both in decked out, engineered
combat ships.
We all carried bait for some foolish pirates to initiate combat, while
we had fighters and turrets deployed. Easy pickings, normally. However,
shortly after the three of us dropped into a hazardous res site, my second
wingman decided to go off chasing squirrels at the far end of the belt.
CMDR Angelis' spidey senses started tingling, so he decided to leave the
site behind entirely. I did not see the signs, however, as I was headed for disaster.
A wing of 3 dangerous pirates found my unit of gold intriguing and demanded i drop it.
Well, i tried taking them on which normally wouldnt have been a problem -
unfortunately things did not go as planned.
My shields at 50%, I called Mr. Spacesquirrels for support - he was 18km away at
that point. My dangerous fighter pilot, my first and only crew member in this
hostile space, Adilene Weber, did her best to stand her ground, to no avail.
She lost fighter after fighter.
After a few seconds more, my shields were depleted entirely. I could hear the enemy
fire tear through my hull, while the bulk heads slammed shut to maintain pressure
in the cockpit. Not much use, especially when the canopy just got blown out.
80% hull.
I had already stowed my hardpoints and prepared to get the hell out, when my controls
went dark. Apparently they shot my power plant to kingdom come.
Shortly before the fire engulfed my entire ship, I hear a proud voice proclaim via
wing comms "Well, thats one." - Mr. Spacesquirrels had taken down an enemy and
was still 7km from my position, while the two other enemies merrily kept on shooting
my burning swiss cheese.
It's nice having competent wingmen...
Shortly afterwards, my ship was torn apart, along with my Crew member.
This endeavour set me back 27.5 million credits and my crew member is gone forever.
She will be missed.
Lesson learned: Do not fly with a muppet. Especially not if one of your wing members is
smart enough to get the hell out before shit goes sideways, thanks to said muppet.
I guess thats enough combat for the time being - time to trade slaves and rares...
DeNeill out.
