Revelations

21 Dec 2022Iridium Nova
It started with an impromptu meeting between myself and several members of the Kyosei Gakkai. Apparently they'd refrained from contacting me for a while because GAIA had determined that my actions would already favor humanity and should not be interfered with - until I helped the Society of Pathamon capture Myeni Horticultural. This event, seemingly innocuous enough, created a problem which the Kyosei Gakkai were too late to stop. Apparently, someone had been interfering in their attempts to warn me away from that course of action, thus allowing the current series of events to play out. I remained skeptical until I was directed to a mission terminal. It appears that the Society of Pathamon has decided to move a large amount of resources and personnel to their new base of operations in Pathamon: Myeni Horticultural.

Why is this a problem? Well, because a great many factions are targeting specific individuals within the Society, and now they know where to find them. The board was full of bounty listings containing a who's who of high value pirates all located at Myeni, including several who have connections to a group called "The Hands of the Architects". The Kyosei Gakkai are not happy with this situation. With these missions popping up across the nearby systems, bounty hunters are swarming into the system seeking to eliminate these people. And if they die, they'll take everything they know about the Hands with them.

For several months, a Gakkai agent by the name of Starbane has been siphoning data from several of these individuals, attempting to gain vital intelligence as to the whereabouts and current disposition of the Hands. It's been determined that a kidnapping attempt would drive the subjects into hiding so more covert methods were decided upon, and seemed to be meeting with success, until now. With the increased attention from bounty hunters, Starbane's wire taps were discovered and security around the targets has increased. Now, getting the necessary intel will be considerably more difficult and may be impossible if the bounty hunters can eliminate all of them before a workaround can be implemented.

Further, the disruption of communications between myself and the Kyosei Gakkai by an unknown third party has revealed an unforseen complication. Someone clearly has access to sensitive information and the means to act on it. I've been instructed to cease intrigue operations in Pathamon until security can be rebuilt, and await the all clear from the Gakkai. At that point they'll be sending me more information about this operation and involving me in it directly.

I'm still not entirely sure what to make of all this. This is one of those reasons I'm not a team player. I prefer to work alone because it eliminates this kind of dependency on others and makes things simpler. But, I also know that one person can only do so much and that sometimes you need a lot of people in order to make change happen. It just tends to be more trouble than it's worth, in my opinion. As per my new directives, I went back to running rescue ops and supporting DoL front line support for the war. I was already going to do that anyway so it's no difference to me. But now I know a bit more about the larger picture, and specifically, the hash signatures of the interlopers who were blocking the Gakkai communications. Meaning, if they try to mess with me again, I'll be able to trace them.

Speaking of rescue ops, I was surprised earlier today when an assassin tried to intercept me while I was delivering a batch of refugees to one of the rescue ships. Apparently, they really wanted those poor people dead. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Even in the face of the potential annihilation of our entire species, some asshats think they're doing the right thing by helping the apocalypse.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: no other race in this universe has mastered assholery quite like humanity.
