JOURNEY OF A COMMANDER PART 30

11.03.3308 - Novara Expedition Day 169

The technicians on board the Novara and myself were able to repair the damage to the FSD and the journey could be continued again. This allowed us to quickly discover another Earth-like world in the system Flyumbue EQ-O d6-3.

In the meantime, sad news reached us from the Bubble - according to the latest reports from the pilots' federation, dozens of commanders have resigned their licences and retired to their home planets. The reason is probably the incompatibility of the new planet approach suite with computer cores of the XB and PS generation. These are not suitable for the necessary modification and many pilots turn their backs on the association rather than have a new core platform installed in their ship. Today, we found something special again, a B star of spectral class 8III in the system Grea Graae XT-A e0.
The letter stands for its spectral class and the number for the range within its class. The Roman numerals, however, stand for the magnitude; most stars in the main sequence have Roman V and belong to the dwarfs, just like our Sun. IV are already the so-called subgiants and III are already the giant stars. Thus we are dealing with a blue-white giant in the lower range of its class.

Planet 1 is a high metal content world and orbits this giant at a distance of 694 ls. Despite this distance, the star heats the atmosphereless planet to an average of 777 K. And yet, the sensors were able to pick up biological signals on the surface.

Despite these proud temperatures, bioluminescent anemones, also called "space pumpkins" among explorers, grew on the planet's surface. On these and other biological life forms, which occur on planets without an atmosphere, various raw materials grow, which can be shot down either with the SRV or with the small arms and then collected with the buggy. Fascinating that these "pumpkins" thrive in the midst of magma and gas vents, among the extremophile life forms the anemones have a leading position.

On our way west, we discovered another Earth-like world in the system Nyautheia IS-F c15, this time orbited by a moon at a distance of half a light second, which is much closer than on Earth. The tidal forces on this "Earth" are therefore much stronger and should cause regular flooding, especially near the coast, but the question is whether these seas are as salty as on the old Earth. Unfortunately, there is again no time for a landing and my crew and I flew on after scanning this planet.

In another system, Syritchi IW-E d11-70, we made a fantastic discovery, crystal shards.

Crystal shards

These are crystalline structures formed by huge colonies of micro-organisms, the exact circumstances are not known but the most striking feature is the presence of Grade 4 raw materials in the form of shootable crystalline spurs. Depending on which rare element is found on the planet, the microorganisms are likely to extract it from the soil and grow it as cones on the main crystals. Whether this is a resource like pollen for bees is not known. The fact is that with crystal shard deposits you can fill your Grade 4 raw materials to the brim. However, systems with deposits are more likely to be found in the outer reaches of the galaxy. So far, none have been found in the interior. My exobiological research team on board the Novara has already made first findings regarding the deposits, but until the data can be published, some investigations and tests are still missing.

This system has three planets with crystal shards, one with ruthenium, one with polonium and one with yttrium. The last two elements are needed for the premium feed of the FSD and are relatively rare. Because of this, this system has been paused and extensively researched, rightly so, as this system not only has wonderful Grade 4 deposits but is even a so-called "green system" where all materials for a premium feed can be found. A so-called "FSD boost station". This system will definitely be bookmarked and possibly submitted to the GEC (Galactic Exploration Catalog). This system has completely filled up the jumponium storage of the Novara and with this good feeling, we continued the journey.

We have reached another intermediate point on the journey to Erikson's Star, the DSSA Carrier DSSA Pilgrim's Harbor in the system Bya Chria QY-Y d1-2. Our thanks go to the Carrier owner Cmdr Mizumono, who provided this Carrier and placed it in this system. Fortunately we arrived on the Carrier in time, I might have caught a viral infection and decided to stay docked for the time being until I recovered. In order not to infect my crew members, I stayed in my Cmdr suite and banished my first officer, to her actual quarters. It is for her protection and the protection of the little one, who is not too long in coming.
