Building a Base to call Home on a Terraformable World

19 Sep 2024Cristina Gomez
The vastness of space never ceases to amaze me. Today, I charted many previously undiscovered systems, each with its own unique celestial bodies. The highlight of the day was another water world with striking azure oceans visible even from high orbit. As I scanned its surface, I couldn't help but imagine what alien life might lurk beneath those waves.

My travels have taken me far from the bustle of the Bubble, beyond even the relative civilization of Colonia. Out here, the stars seem brighter, the void darker. I've mapped gas giants with rings that would make Saturn jealous, and terrestrial worlds with canyons that could swallow entire continents back home. Each new discovery fills me with a sense of wonder and purpose, knowing that I'm expanding humanity's understanding of our galaxy.

Sometimes, I find myself longing for more permanent roots. My Fleet Carrier, safely docked in the Ratraii system, provides a semblance of home, but it's not the same as feeling solid ground beneath my feet. I often dream of finding the perfect terraformable world, one where I could establish a base of operations. A place to call my own amidst the stars, where I could process my data, repair my ship, and maybe even start a small research outpost.

For now, such dreams remain just that - dreams. The technology to fabricate a permanent installation on a distant world isn't quite there yet. But out here, surrounded by the infinite possibilities of space, I can't help but wonder: will it one day become an option? Could future explorers like myself stake a claim on these far-flung worlds, becoming the first settlers of a new frontier? Only time will tell. Until then, I'll keep pushing forward, charting the unknown, one star system at a time.
