THE BEACON

After the battle of Shinrarta Dezhra, commander Jav Marlo and Ayumi delve into deep space looking for a Guardian beacon, on a secret mission for engineer Ram Tah.

30 SEPTEMBER 3310, Jameson Memorial, Shinrarta Dezhra system.

This is commander Jav Marlo, recording this log on Jameson Memorial. The battle of Shinrarta Dezhra is over, and I was planning on coming back to the war front in the Pegasi sector, but something came on the way. Ram Tah, the engineer, asked us to investigate a Guardian signal detected emitting from the IC 2391 sector.

After Ram Tah helped me isolating my Guardian implants from Thargoid influence, I cannot refuse the man. The war would have to wait. So I brought to Jameson Memorial my old exploring vessel, the Orion, and upgraded it to seek the origin of this elusive Guardian signal Ram Tah was trying to track.

The IC 2391 sector is just about 500 ly away, so I thought the mission would only take us only a few days. As I took the Orion again into the dark with Ayumi, old memories came back from our first trip into the Formidine Rift, long time ago.

Some hours later we reached IC 2391 region. The new sensors on the Orion worked like a charm, and soon we located the origin of the signal coming from the eight planet in system IC 2391 Sector FG-X b1-9. It was a class I gas giant, and as we approached, we could see a huge dark structure orbiting over the rings with the unmistakable blue glowing of the Guardian structures.

The Orion approaching a Guardian beacon

Ayumi and I have experience exploring Guardian structures, I guess that is why Ram Tah chose us. After a reconnaissance view we soon found some smaller structures floating around the main beacon that could be charged with a laser in the same way that the surface Guardian pylons.

Once the three pylons were charged, the whole structure activated, all its pieces moving and rotating among bluish rays until they released a Guardian Orb.

We approached the structure and scanned the orb using an encryption algorithm that Ram Tah had provided us. That caused some of the upper parts to move releasing something that looked like a Guardian Relic.

The Orion approaching the artefact released by the Guardian beacon

We syphoned the artefact and headed back to Shinrarta Dezhra. On the way back to Jameson Memorial I sent a message to Ram Tah telling him about the artefact and beamed him the data we scanned. Sometime later a message came back saying that someone will be waiting for us to take what he called the Ancient Key and that he had left a special gift for us in the station as reward for our efforts. He also mentioned that Ayumi would love it.

The Orion arriving to Jameson Memorial

The moment we landed, Ayumi stormed into the docking bay looking for Ram Tah’s surprise. And I have been waiting for her to return at the bay’s lounge for hours now. We should be on our way to the Pegasi sector but… but I guess Ayumi deserves some fun after all this months of war.

Ram Tah’s surprise was a brand new XG9 Lance hybrid Guardian ship-launched fighter, designed by Ram Tah, and equipped with Gauss Cannons. The engineer must have heard how much Ayumi loves fast vessels… She has been flying it around Jameson Memorial for hours. I think I will give her some minutes more before I call her back. We should be moving… Perhaps if I promise her that we are taking the fighter with us… I could convince her to land.
