Aboard BR-06B “Soaring Leviathan”

I thought there would be more panic, I thought I would be more panicked. An alien invasion of the cradle, a threat to where we all began. It’s no different than so many other blue rocks in the cosmos. Humanity has been terraforming for so long Earth is no longer special, it should not stir me so I have never even breathed it’s air or stepped foot on it but each time I pass by heading to Abraham Lincoln Station my heart stirs. To think all the philosophy and ancient history I’ve read on all those long voyages would not help me a lick at all in this vexing melancholy. But even on the edge of disaster I have a job to do, at the end of the day I'm still just running a cruise liner. I got to keep telling myself that.

I’m no AX pilot, the shadow in the eyes of the ones I’ve seen at dock is harrowing. I suppose the bags under my eyes are no different. I’ve only had a few causalities. That’s six people I let get snatched by aliens and no matter how many people can cram into the Leviathan there’s no way all of the Pilot’s Federation could move all these people and it hurts. Even if this is deep in Federation space. The ancient grudge seems pointless right now.

Watching children quietly tearful loading into the ship. One bag for each passenger. When I was a slave I remember being loaded into a pod with just one bag. At least I knew where I was going. There is no honor in being a refugee but I am amazed by the quiet dignity I have seen these past few days.

We can panic after we get more people out. These people deserve to get somewhere they can have more than one bag.
