Seven Months in the Black, Almost Home to a Busy Time

20 Dec 2024Travers
It was sometime back in June, perhaps even May, I can't remember as it's been so long since I headed out into the black. It's been quite some epic exploration trip but wow, some of the amazing things I've seen. One picture is below. There are such beautiful wonders out there still to be found. I've travelled to thousands of star systems this year, but that's such a miniscule amount of the total systems still to visit.

I've been out searching for colony base locations in Tenebrae, the most easterly region of the galaxy where the Magellan's Star cardinal point is to be found. I've always loved this place, primarily for the challenge. Unlike the other cardinal points it's really hard to reach, because there's a huge region of the galaxy between Tenebrae and the bubble where the star density drops really low.

A buddy of mine, Hig Hurtenflurst came out on the trip with me, with both of us bringing our carriers as support craft. We're at the Heart and Soul nebulae right now. He's gonna head down to the abandoned Formidine Rift settlements and on to the Zurara megaship. There are big mysteries attached to those, I wonder if he'll be able to find any new info, certainly the families would like more answers than the base logs can provide.

For me, I head back to the bubble today. Damn I've got a lot to do before work begins to build the bridge to the new colony. Resources and outfitting are going to be scarce, if even available at all when we get out there, so before we go I've got an absolute ton of modules to buy and engineer. I'm lucky that this has coincided with more space being freed up at starports and on my carrier to keep these modules, that's very helpful.

I'm gonna meet up with my half-brother, Mark Wells, who is on an extended stay in the bubble after helping me find good systems for a bridge. When I've got my engineering finished we're gonna head off to the crystal shard fields to meet up with Hurtenflurst. These places are an absolute boon for gathering the rarest raw materials. We could all do with stocking up. Wells will head home to Colonia after that I would imagine.

So it looks like I'll be able to give my carrier crew some time off over the Christmas and New Year holiday. I'll be busy, it's a good thing I didn't already have plans as I'd probably have had to cancel them. If you can detect a certain amount of excitement in my voice though then you'd be right, I'm really excited about the prospect of building a new colony out in the black. I've got good friends helping with this too. 3311 is going to be some great year!
