But spirits never die
They remain in the realm
Between the heavens and Earth for all eternity
Valiantly guiding us along the path of righteousness"

The Independent Yamato Cosmo Navy originally started as the Independents of Kamu Yamato Navy (IKYN), an initiative created by the original governing body of Kamu Yamato to serve and protect as its military naval arm.
However, right from the beginning, there were troubles.
The project was overly ambitious for a system that struggled to keep the basic needs of the people covered, and the general lack of interest of foreign powers in establishing trade relations prevented any form of economic growth.
It wasn’t until the arrival of a few independent Commanders, who took to assisting the system in their plight, that the project finally gained traction. As time went on, funding wrought from beneficial trading brought to them by the intrepid space jockeys began accumulating, and it was believed the first step was to be the purchase of a Fleet Carrier to serve as a mobile base for the navy – a must as the system lacked adequate means to resupply ships in space.
It was too little, too late.
The eternal flames of war came to the system, and it found itself ill prepared to deal with it.
Defeat was inevitable, and as such, quite a few of the inhabitants chose exile in fear of being persecuted for their political beliefs.
Grudgingly, they accepted their fate. Even the Commanders that had assisted the system found themselves with dashed hopes, and one by one they dropped out.
But the project kept going, now solely headed by the last Commander still aboard.
Completion was reached, and with it, a Fleet Carrier was purchased. Soon after the exiles heard of it, they volunteered to serve on it, if only to keep the dream alive in some way or form. On that day, the IKYN was disbanded, and from its ashes rose the IYCN.
Being an entity entirely without any particular political ties – although quite a bit of the crew was part of the original IKYN, which was in support of the Federation – the IYCN is free to commit itself to any goals it deems worthy.
For the moment, there are two objectives officially delineated:
1 – Currently, the IYCN has thrown its support towards the reforged Aegis, believing them to be their best option in seeking an end to the war with the Thargoids. Already it has received recognition for participating in the initiative to bring unclassified relics to renowned scientists Ram Tah and Ishmael Palin
2- as the navy’s flagship “Shoukaku” roams through space, it is to keep an eye out for any potential systems that could one day be a new home for the exiles
