Errantry... It's a concept taken from several places, but errantry boils down to "go out, do good deeds, do as little harm as possible, fight evil."  A little bit of Arthurian idealism, a little bit of practicality.  Given the various professions, this is what Errantry can mean:

(again, an IRL note here: this is not a full-time job.  Do as much or as little as you want.  Nobody's taking any vows of poverty or charity here)

Combat:  Fight pirates, fight injustice, fight wars if you have to.  You are the most direct and the most visible of the force projection.  You have the power to end lockdowns, stop civil unrest, protect people being preyed upon, both NPC and otherwise.  You're the swords, and you're the shields.

Exploration:  For the explorer, knowledge is quite literally power.  Go, seek out strange new worlds.  The data you bring back can be used to prop up systems that need it, pushing factions into boom, or expansion, or war.  It's a major responsibility. It's not as flashy or as up-front as combat, but with enough data one person can change the course of a dozen star systems.

Commodities traders/Miners/Transport and data Missions:  The logistics chain.  Where explorers and combat pilots can provide massive bursts of influence into a system, the cargo pilots and data runners are the ones who keep the momentum going.  The transport vessels you fly can be used to fight famines, disease outbreaks, and repair damaged and destroyed stations.  The passenger pilots are the ones who evacuate burning stations, save refugees, transport doctors... you are the logistics chain that keeps the universe moving.

That's what we try to be about.  It's not ironclad, it's not set in stone, but it's our guide.
