History

The Galactic Security Squadron traces its origins to a group of commanders who flew for a private security firm known as the Gnosis Security Squadron. These commanders were entrusted with the security of The Gnosis, the ill-fated flagship of the Canonn Interstellar Research Group.

On September 6th 3304, The Gnosis was hyperdicted and attacked by Thargoids when it attempted a hyperspace jump towards the Cone Sector FN-J B9-0 system. A short time later, the following message was received from Captain Mathius Leander of the Gnosis command crew:

“We were a short way into our journey when the Gnosis was hyperdicted by a group of Thargoid vessels. The wrench back into real space caused severe internal damage to multiple systems, including the frame shift drive.”

“There’s no doubt that we would have been destroyed if not for some of the Commanders travelling with us. They lured the Thargoids away while ejecting meta-alloys from their holds. The aliens were more interested in scooping up the meta-alloys than attacking us. The Commanders later reported that the Thargoid vessels were the recently identified Hydra Interceptors.”

Many of the ship’s crew who stayed behind watched as these commanders led the Thargoids away, engaging the hostiles which grossly outnumbered them . As their ships slowly grew smaller in the distance, it seemed almost certain that these commanders would never be seen again.

In the days that passed after the attack, information slowly began trickling back into the core systems of human space. Rumors of heavily damaged combat fitted ships returning to The Bubble with a “G.S.S.” tag began to spread. Although many people deny the possibility that some of those Commanders may have survived, some expert pilots and historians suggest that it may have been possible.

The most popular theory proposes that some of the more skilled commanders may have survived the initial conflict only to find themselves lost and unable to return to The Gnosis. Early investigations into the whereabouts of the missing commanders revealed a series of unidentifiable high wake signals, suggesting they likely made a significant number of jumps in which they did not select a destination; blind jumps in an effort to shake the Thargoid ships which were pursuing them.

The number of wake signals detected in the nearby systems makes it seem highly likely that this effort was unsuccessful. The Pilots Federation released a statement revealing that the standard operating procedure for commanders to prevent detection in a situation like this is to shut down and prevent all signals from leaving the ship.

The combination of blind jumps and secured navigation systems likely forced the surviving commanders to begin the long journey back towards The Bubble. Relying on the stars and what they knew about their general location in the galaxy, some of the more veteran commanders would have been able to plot a rough course in the direction of Human Space.

While little is still known about these survivors, eyewitness testimonies all seem to suggest that the G.S.S. ships have made it a habit of showing up when other commanders are in distress. A trader, who wishes to remain anonymous, claims that he successfully hailed one of these ships on voice comms after they rescued him.

“The commander referred to his faction as the “Galactic Security Squadron”, I’ve never heard of ‘em, but I sure am thankful they showed up when they did.”

The trader claims the G.S.S. commander then reminded him to stay vigilant, explaining that his mission was to make sure an event like The Gnosis attack is never experienced by another commander again.

Mission

The Galactic Security Squadron, or G.S.S., dispatches Competent pilots throughout the galaxy to protect and escort exploration ships into deep space. The G.S.S. focus is specifically the security of at risk research and exploration vessels, and the defense of them against any potential human and non human adversaries.

We ask all interested pilots, of all skill levels who wish to contribute, to come join our ranks. Exploration pilots are also welcomed to join in order to request assistance from our Pilots. Exploration pilots who join our group can request a small wing of competent pilots to escort them should they be less well armed due to the nature of their missions.

The G.S.S. aims to provide a safe place for commanders to learn the ins and outs of all aspects of Elite, with a primary focus on combat and survival. We are a closely knit community of skilled commanders there to help each other and other commanders. Think of the G.S.S. like an academy of learning. We have numerous wings and group chats available where experts in their field are available to answer questions and provide guidance.

At the top of the G.S.S. there are specialized wings for different tasks, all made up of veteran commanders which are hand picked by the wing lead. Anyone has the ability to rank up through the group to the top to become a Veteran Wing Commander or Pilot.
