PVP Policy
Squadron Policy Regarding PVP, Ganking, and GriefingDeep Space Syndicate (DPSS) recognizes PVP as an established aspect of Elite Dangerous, and approaches this apsect with the following ideology and policies.
Ideology
DPSS recognizes that players may or may not appreciate PVP, and strives to encourage other players to enjoy Elite Dangerous in order to ensure a long and healthy lifespan for the game. Therefore, DSS divides PVP play into the following categories: PVP, Ganking, and Griefing All DPSS pilots are expected to abide by the following policies for each category.
Ground Rules
These basic ground rules are expected of all DPSS pilots in any PvP scenario:
- DPSS pilots are expected not to combat-log from a PvP instance, including the use of a menu log. Any accidental disconnect must be recorded and submitted to Squadron leadership as proof.
- DPSS pilots are expected not to "ghost" in PvP instances (return to the instance after being destroyed).
- DPSS pilots are expected not to use premium ammunition in PvP instances.
- DPSS pilots are expected not to use concordant or regenerative lasers to buff teammates shields in PvP instances.
- DPSS pilots are expected not to use NPC-flown ship-launched fighters in PvP instances.
Policies
PVP
PVP involves established, agreed-upon combat between players. In order to ensure a fun PVP session, pilots are encouraged to establish ground rules PRIOR to engaging in PVP. These ground rules should cover whether the fight is to the death (inducing rebuy), or to a lesser point, such as shields dropping or a certain hull percentage.
In addition to this definition and policy, PVP play that directly relates to gameplay (such as conflict zones, community goals, and faction/squadron wars) is encouraged by DSS and does not necessarily conform to the requirement for established ground rules. DSS pilots should strive to avoid initiating faction/squadron wars, but are encouraged to defend themselves if fired upon.
Ganking
Ganking involves combat between players that is not agreed upon. Ganking is permitted by DSS within the following guidelines:
- DPSS pilots are expected not to destroy players that are not equipped for combat, or that are clearly not looking to engage in combat (cargo ships, passenger missions)
- DPSS pilots are expected to avoid forcing newer players to eat rebuys (take them down to 20% but let them go--we don't know if they are flying without rebuy). Determination of "new player" goes by combat rank of the DPSS Pilot. DSS Pilots should not dstroy another CMDR if they would not gain points of combat XP by destroying an NPC of the other CMDR's rank. More details on this can be found below.
- DPSS pilots are permitted to interdict any ship regardless of type/rank, but are expected not to destroy ships that are not equipped to fight.
- Gameplay related PVP (conflict zones, community goals, and faction/squadron wars) is exempt from the above guidelines.
Griefing
Griefing is any type of PVP meant to cause moral discouragement through unequal gameplay, including (but not limited to) destroying pilots unequipped to defend themselves without in-game purpose, or following and harassing players who are not interested in engaging in combat. Griefing is strictly against DPSS policy.
How to determine if you can destroy another CMDR
DPSS Pilots should not destroy another CMDR (outside of established gameplay, such as conflict zones, CGs, or faction wars) if they would not gain combat XP for destroying an NPC of the other CMDR's rank. To determine this, use the below chart. The DPSS CMDR's rank is on the top, and the other CMDR's rank is on the left hand side.
Player Rank | |||||||||
Target Rank | Harmless | Mostly Harmless | Novice | Competent | Expert | Master | Dangerous | Deadly | Elite |
Harmless | 1.00 | 0.75 | 0.5 | 0.25 | ? | ? | ? | ? | ? |
Mostly Harmless | 1.25 | 1.00 | 0.75 | 0.5 | 0.25 | ? | ? | ? | ? |
Novice | 1.5 | 1.25 | 1.00 | 0.75 | 0.5 | 0.25 | ? | ? | ? |
Competent | 1.75 | 1.5 | 1.25 | 1.00 | 0.75 | 0.5 | 0.25 | ? | ? |
Expert | 2.00 | 1.75 | 1.50 | 1.25 | 1.00 | 0.75 | 0.5 | 0.25 | ? |
Master | 2.25 | 2.00 | 1.75 | 1.5 | 1.25 | 1.00 | 0.75 | 0.5 | 0.25 |
Dangerous | 2.5 | 2.25 | 2.00 | 1.75 | 1.5 | 1.25 | 1.00 | 0.75 | 0.5 |
Deadly | 2.75 | 2.5 | 2.25 | 2.00 | 1.75 | 1.5 | 1.25 | 1.00 | 1.75 |
Elite | 3.00 | 2.75 | 2.5 | 2.25 | 2.00 | 1.75 | 1.5 | 1.25 | 1.00 |
Example 1
We can see that a DPSS CMDR of rank Competent would gain XP points for the destruction of an NPC of rank Harmless; therefore, a DPSS CMDR of rank Competent can destroy another CMDR of rank Harmless.
Example 2
We can see that a DPSS CMDR of rank Dangerous could would not gain any Combat XP for the destruction of an NPC of rank Novice and below; therefore, a DSS CMDR of rank Dangerous should not destroy another CMDR of rank Novice and below.
