2. EI CORPORATE LEGACY
ELEUSINIAN INITIATIVE. IX was one of the more notable acquisitions made by Sirius Corporation in their bid to expand their strategic portfolio. While significant for its advanced-tech economy, the system is exceptional for its sophisticated corporate environment and the advanced research facilities developed in-region. Despite possession of a relatively minor population, IX has been at the forefront of the technological frontier throughout recent history. Its high-level of corporate autonomy and advanced military industry have long established IX as an invaluable asset, not just in expanding the bounds of technology, but also to those who control it. And it is of considerable note that the enigmatic Eleusian Initiative operates out of this sector and has been given mandate by both the Federation and Sirius Corporation to maintain specialized exclusion zones within system, as enforced by the Initiative’s internal security, Battlegroup Diomedes. With these holdings, the EI spearheads the forefront of intelligence-collection equipment manufacturing and perpetuates its influence among a broad array of efforts;
The existence of the Initiative first came to light with the disclosure of its partnership with the Federation in the preceding period of Federal sovereignty over IX. The hitherto unknown corporation was found to be providing unspecified analytics guidance to the Federation, and subsequent Federal oversight inquiries brought to light the nature of the Initiative’s expertise in informatics relating to engineering political dynamics in evolving regional conflicts. While the nature of this arrangement was never publicly revealed, the Eleusinian Initiative suddenly expanded into the enterprise of deep space exploration and anomalous data analytics, opening public offices and coordinating with the Pilot’s Federation in aggregating stellar data. This expansion into stellar analytics progressed into developing early warning detection and counter-measure systems, this time, however, for the newly invested Sirius Corporation.
Recent months have witnessed an escalation of tension stemming from the Initiative’s speculated involvement in moves to devolve system administration of Sirius Corporation in the interest of strengthening regional autonomy and an independent corporatist culture, albeit within the parameters of Sirius regional sovereignty. While no direct evidence supports this, it would be difficult to find any greater beneficiary to such a move. The colossal shipyards of IX had proven vital in supplying and maintaining the Federal fleet operating in the greater region, however its forced purchase by the Sirius Corporation has greatly diminished this link and production has been adapted accordingly. Consequently, it has become apparent that the Sirius Corporation has become increasingly dependent on the system of IX, but unlike the Federation, has found itself absent the capacity to effectively maintain order.
The Corporate Board, local representatives that act as an advisory body to the Sirius appointed governor, has been publicly critical of the latter’s administrative record and perceived inability to unilaterally maintain system security. In a series of embarrassing developments, beginning with unprecedented economic shocks that have forced analysts to downgrade projected revenue forcasts, and the increasing reliance on corporate security to combat the emergent wave of piracy have led to accusations of incompetence and a lack of initiative from Sirius Corporation. It is inconceivable that the situation could deteriorate so quickly for Sirius, but absent decisive action there may well develop a power vacuum in IX.
