(History) The Dragoons
The Imperial Dragoons were formed in late 3162 as per request of a Royal War Council for a covert mission into independent territory. Having only hours to prepare, a discreet task force known only as The Second Element were deployed with haste to carry out what had been dubbed as ‘Operation Deliverance`. The mission was to rescue an Imperial dignitary whose shuttle had been boarded en route to a meeting with managers of a prospective corporation. The hijackers had taken the shuttle to a small base on a backwater world and had already survived one Imperial assault. As the galactic clock struck 06:00 on Facece, an Imperial Cutter was dispatched containing seven handpicked soldiers from various Imperial Special Operations Units. Under the cover of darkness, The Second Element infiltrated the outpost and retrieved the hostage without firing a single laser however as they prepared to extract, orders from the highest authority were relayed to the troops via their holo-com devices demanding that they leave no man alive and show the galaxy how the Empire negotiates with terrorists. All eyes turned to the ship’s fighter hanger. The Cutter the Imperial troops inserted with was also hauling an experimental Imperial fighter equipped with far-firing flame throwers intended for crowd control. Upon a solid group agreement, the Element’s best pilot commandeered the fighter and proceeded to the outpost. Utilising the ship’s vertical thrust, the pilot threw the fighter’s nose down and began spitting fire across the buildings. With flames and explosions lighting the night, the fighter docked with the already exfiltrating Cutter.During re-entry into the Facece atmosphere, high ranking naval officials decided that this task force should be kept for when the Empire needed a swift squadron that could be deployed anywhere in the galaxy at a moment’s notice. Over the following weeks, the media began to pick up reports of an "Explosive Event” that left death and destruction in its wake. Witnessed had described an attack that could only be visualised as an old dragon story you could read in any mythical story. No official statement was released by the Navy or even the Senate but those in the know were proud of the portraiture that was being created. The name caught on. Through the subsequent years the task force became known as the “Dragons of Achenar,” even without any official declaration of existence, before eventually evolving into the Imperial Dragoons, the knights who rode the dragons. The Dragoons were embedded with the 9th Legion in 3218 and it was then that legend of the “Dragons of Achenar” publicly came into being.
