The Founding and History

TerraLight Industries started out as a quiet cargo company. A small business venture between two Federal Navy veterans. Their business grew, taking on more and more employees. The business world took notice. Terralight soon incorporated with a biological research firm, and a small private security company. As Terralight Industries’ original founders passed their venture on to their heirs, the casual and cooperative business agreement among their partners turned sour.

Through a series of takeovers, TerraLight Industries became a corporate powerhouse. It now had the assets of the three companies combined under one corporate board. TerraLight Industries earned its reputation in 2905, when it was contracted for research and development by the Intergalactic Naval Research Arm. Its aim was to refine and perfect the process of planetary terraformation.

TerraLight quickly grew to become a household name in 3124 when it established a combat and security wing, recruiting across the galaxy. Contracting again for INRA, pilots of this new wing quickly found themselves up against impossible odds fighting off a Thargoid invasion. Some speculate that TerraLight Industries played a role in the development of the Mycoid virus, which halted the Thargoid invasion in 3193. However, these conjectures have never been confirmed.

Following the retreat of the Thargoid invasion, human space entered a period of revitalization and re-colonization. Taking advantage of its now vast fleet, TerraLight began taking smaller contracts providing security, supplies, and transportation as well as their terraforming expertise. These contracts proved to be lucrative and TerraLight ceased contracting with the INRA, who forced TerraLight to turn over much of its research and lab samples. There is suspicion that among the samples was a vaccine to the Mycoid virus, which was stolen by the Independent Alliance in 3253, and delivered to the Thargoid home system, Miacke. Again, the rumor is unconfirmed.

TerraLight continues to be among the largest corporations, and one with nothing hidden about its favoritism toward the Federation. Allegations that TerraLight uses its wealth to influence the Federation to its advantage are not entirely unfounded.

After a few centuries of moving headquarters around with its operations. TerraLight Industries finally established an operation headquarters in the HIP 101760 system. HIP 101760 was selected for its pristine real-estate, offering all materials needed for its terraforming operations among the smaller planetary bodies. As a bonus, Haldeman II Enterprise, the system’s largest station offered a broad range of modules for ship modification.
TerraLight Industries faced immediate resistance upon setting up their headquarters, with a band of pirates. The pirates claimed they had already lain claim to the system, and immediately began making demands. However, TerraLight executives stood their ground, explaining their policy is not to negotiate with terrorists. Conflict with the pirates was short lived. Faced with no other options, the band of pirates abandoned their aspirations to set up headquarters in HIP 101760, and left the system.

It wasn't long before Terralight Industries' expansion efforts began to press the borders of powerful neighbors. Careful diplomacy has kept Terralight from the battlefield, however blood thirsty executives within the company began to grow bored with the mundane corporate rigor. While their loyalties remain with their home system, some Terralight executives have been known to satisfy their bloodlust by independently contracting elsewhere. The connections made through the thirst for violence solidified Terralight Industries' reputation of having a dark side to an otherwise peaceful facade.

The desirability of HIP 101760 became especially apparent when TerraLight executives were contacted by another faction who had been preparing the system for their own expansion. The rivalry was quickly settled without conflict through peaceful negotiations. With a headquarters established, Terralight Industries quickly began expansion efforts, gaining control of numerous systems surrounding their headquarters. A scouting entourage identified a very desirable system near by, Omicron Capricorni B. With rich elemental deposits and beautiful scenery, TerraLight began an expansion campaign to gain control of the system.

Before TerraLight was successful in reaching Omicron Capricorni B, a renegade dictatorship sprung up claiming the system as their headquarters. TerraLight executives were called into a board meeting do discuss the viability of continuing the expansion efforts. Headstrong, the board unanimously voted to proceed with the expansion in spite of this new development. TerraLight soon managed to establish a presence in the Omicron Capricorni B system. However, resistance from the local factions proved difficult to overcome and TerraLight failed to gain control of the system. The strength of TerraLight's corporate machine did not go unnoticed, however, and the renegade faction, Free Space Rangers, began an attempt at diplomacy.

TerraLight had, thus far, been successful in establishing stron diplomatic ties with it's neighbors. TerraLight's board of directors agreed to an offering; to allow Free Space Rangers control of their home system, but demanded control of the planetary asset, Litke Station. The Free Space Rangers agreed to the terms and TerraLight began operations to establish control of the station. However, the Free Space Rangers proved to be untrustworthy, putting great effort into preventing TerraLight's control of the station. Furthermore, they began expansion efforts pressing into TerraLight's long established territory. When TerraLight received distress calls from their friendly neighbors, who were also experiencing invasive actions from the Free Space Rangers and failed diplomacy, the call for war became too much to ignore.

TerraLight Industries continues to recruit new members into the corporation, offering assistance, training, and a growing library of research to its employees.
