Squadron Lore
Lore is a particularly important element in what makes up the Elite experience. When Elite was first published in 1984, it was released with an accompanying book - mainly because the game mechanics available could not attempt to convey enough detail, so the thought was that a book that players could read would add that extra richness in its place.
Since then, the game world has inspired many authors to write novels that have added to the underlying tapestry that sits behind what you can interact with. For the release of Elite: Dangerous, Frontier Developments continued this trend, inviting several authors to write a series of novels that have become canon (i.e. many of the key plot points can be discovered in tourist beacons throughout the bubble).
One of these authors was Drew Wagar, who contributed the Elite: Reclamation and Elite: Premonition novels, charting the rise and fall of Salome; the narrative concluding in a huge player-driven effort to protect or kill the character. Some of you will have been involved in this - I certainly was.
The Twelve Ronin are nearly unique among player factions in that we have our own lore, which is officially sanctioned by Drew Wagar, who gave permission for our origin story "Cresting the Wave", to exist alongside Elite: Premonition (I have used some of the same characters in the book and some key moments). Additional permission was also given by the other player group that features in the early history of the faction. Knowledge of these event and novels is not required, but I would encourage you to dive into the wider lore that exists.
However, it must be noted that having a set of self-contained stories that gives a narrative starting point for the squadron, the faction and what they stand for - that co-exists with Frontier Developments' sanctioned canon - is a huge asset for our squadron; it really sets us apart.
Please feel free to engage with these stories as you will, get involved; PM me with feedback or suggestions, or pay no heed. It's there if you want to dive in, but not required by any means.
In order to read these short novels, simply use any route that you would for any commercial eBook: upload to Google Books, sideload to iBooks, or open on your computer in MS Edge. It's even possible to convert them to read on a Kindle. They are fully licensed for free distribution, and have covers, contents list etc. Once loaded to a library they are indistinguishable from a purchased novel.

The Story so Far:
Cresting the Wave - Click to download ePub from Google Drive
The official canon lore tale of the origin of the 12 Ronin. This is where the story kicks off, with the events that lead the initial 12 Ronin to form up. The initial 12 are all player members, but some are slightly anonymised. You might be one of them.
Fronting the Front:
Fronting the Front - Click to download ePub from Google Drive
This picks up the story and tells of the initial fight to establish the squadron against it's early foe - the Bureau of LP 941-16 Front. It's slightly unusual in that it tells the story from their side..
Patronage - Click to download from Google Drive
Patronage takes the narrative into the formation of Verne Partners - the in-game player faction, and how the Ronin were instrumental in this, and how it nearly lead to their destruction.
Black Ops - Click here to download from Google Drive
Black Ops is set shortly after Patronage, and moves the story forward, with the Ronin involved in a daring heist to begin the fight back against their original and deadly enemy, the Cabal.
