Society

Society is best described through comparison to Imperial and Alliance societies.

Comparison to the Empire:
  • Significantly more technologically dependent than the Empire, due to hatred and banning of slavery.
  • Human cloning is viewed with disdain due to growing Alliance influence, though is not strictly illegal.
  • The society is more focussed on the “treating people well as a question of honour” part than status and wealth. Families are collected into larger houses, with social heads – though these are figureheads rather than holding any genuine power.
  • Nobody is above the law – unlike in the Empire, executions without a vote from the Lord’s council (or System Council before conquest of other systems) are always illegal. Narcotics are not illegal, but are provided with heavy tax rates and are viewed with more disdain than in Imperial systems
  • The Imperial emphasis on aesthetics is clear and dominant, though this aesthetic draws influence from many more backgrounds due to the system’s location. The appearance of people, and their houses, is viewed as essential, though those that cannot achieve this are not looked down on -  instead all society contributes to increasing their standing. Basic human rights are considered of a much higher standard than elsewhere.

Comparison to the Alliance:

  • A portion of the fleet raised from Spearhead Charter controlled systems is contributed to the Alliance Defence Force.
  • Whilst these troops are provided, the rest of the fleet is under no obligation to the Council of Admirals, and the system is free from conscription were the Alliance to require it, except for the likely eventual case of war against the Thargoids – in which case, Spearhead Charter will lead their fleet anyway, since this eventuality is the reason for their existence.
  • The people greatly approve the freedom under the Alliance’s banner to rule themselves as they wish, with the Alliance holding no control over their governance. It is effectively an autonomous client state of the Alliance. Many of the Alliance’s ideals of harmony and independence are maintained, though the sudden freedom of the system leaves a significant portion of the populace with pride in their martial prowess; training in combat is common from a young age. This allows Spearhead Charter to request significant additional troops from their subjects, for use in conflict against the Thargoids, or conquest.
  • The Council of Admirals allows legal expansion of Spearhead Charter, enabling the faction to overthrow weaker minor factions and strengthen the Alliance as whole.
