Every story has a beginning...

In April of the year 3301, open discussions around Soontill Relics, the Regor Permit Sector and cryptic hints from the greatest seer of the modern age, known to many as DBOBE, hinted that there is more to find, more to discover.

Dr Arcanonn called for more information from the galactic community, and within days, that call was answered.
The case of the curious 'Unknown Artifact' or UA as it is called.

Few had seen one, or were even aware of its existance until another seer of the modern age, known to followers as just 'Michael' asked a simple question “Have you listened to them?” - the hunt was on.

And so started the story of the Canonn, and its Commanders.

Every story has its heroes...

Commanders from the Empire, Alliance, Federation and Independent, from all professions, set aside their differences and united in a goal, the pursuit of scientific investigation, the open sharing of knowledge, and biscuits.

Every single Commander of the Canonn is a hero, through breathtaking discoveries, dogged determination, finding the 1,000 ways that dont work, or by sheer persistance prove that they are right. Or wrong. Each is equally valid.

If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, and research is the process of going up alleys to see if they are blind.

Every hero has a story...

The initial loose coalition of commanders then became more structured, and eventually formed what is now The Canonn Interstellar Research Group (‘Canonn’ for short). Led by the Council, for the members.

An independent cooperative, made up now of many hundreds of Commanders, committed to exploration, discovery, science, biscuits and tinfoil hats.

Any question that needs an answer, anything strange to be investigated, we are usually leading the way, and sharing everything we discover in a spirit of openness, to everyone, both friends and foes alike.

We may not have the right answers, but eventually we ask the right questions. For science!

Not all those who wander are lost...

Even scientists need a place to call home, and after a vote of the members in August 3301, from a shortlist of three, Varati was chosen as our new home system, and we setup our headquarters in Thompson Dock.

As well as the science investigations all across the galaxy, Commanders of the Canonn are working to maintain and expand our influence. Starting from Varati, we have expanded our scientific research into COL 285 SECTOR IX-T D3-43, IX Chodharr, Cauan Tzu, Othelkan, Col 285 Sector KS-T D3-124, Lumaragro, Diabozo and Aknango.

The galactic community responded magnificently in March 3302, and helped us mine Palladium to kickstart the building of a state of the art research base, the Canonn Institute, now located in COL 285 SECTOR IX-T D3-43, with help from an anonymous group of philanthropists.

Canonn Colonia Expansion - Success!

Canonn Scientists answered the call regarding the lack of adequate science facilities in Colonia. Having heard their plight, thosands of tonnes of rare commodities were loaded and delivered to Jacques Station in a fantastic team effort.
The Canonn will now bring the light of science to this dark nebula!

New life, and new civilisations...

One word, Barnacles.

Another chapter in the story of the Canonn.

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us....

So many discoveries, so much science still to do. Here are some highlights of that which has gone before:

The UAs were found being carried by convoys.
A new group event was formed 'The Biscuit Barrels' where wings of CMDRs would try and find these elusive and rare events, and liberate the UA for research.
A multitude of theories and tests later, we know a lot more about the UA, but there is still more to discover.
The morse code signal was detected, which spelled the name of the nearest body or the system name.
Free floating UAs were found, and then later discovered to form a spherical shell (135-150LY) around Merope.
UA morse changed, and was found to ‘draw’ our ships
Meta-Alloys appeared in the commodities markets. The description hinted at barnacles being the source. What were they? The hunt again was on.
First Barnacle found on Merope 5c. Then more. Many more. Discoveries are still being made and catalogued. Status changes too.
UAs found to damage stations if sold in large numbers.
Meta-Alloys were found to restore UA damaged stations.
The Canonn Defence Force formed, who can be called to act as protection for those doing scientific research.
Unknown Probes - liberated from convoys, just like the first UAs. But they point at Merope 5C. The planet. Not the star.
