2 - Squadron Charter

This document outlines the principles and goals that guide the operations of "Elite Dangerous Australia and New Zealand" ("EDANZ"). It helps (1) EDANZ leaders plan squadron activities and interact with other squadrons, (2) EDANZ members understand their expected conduct and (3) other squadrons and players understand how EDANZ operates.

This document covers all Elite Dangerous platforms, currently PC, Xbox and PlayStation.

EDANZ leadership may change this document in the future, for example, to account for Elite Dangerous gameplay changes.

Member Conduct

EDANZ aims to (1) provide a safe, fun player-versus-environment ("PvE") environment for its members and (2) respect players outside the squadron. While Elite Dangerous offers adversarial play, EDANZ considers the Elite Dangerous galaxy a big place with room for everyone.

Guidelines:
  1. Elite Dangerous appeals to a diverse mix of people. EDANZ members must not unreasonably discriminate or disparage any player through actions or communication. EDANZ leadership will warn, timeout or (in severe or repeated cases) expel members that do so.
  2. Players join squadrons to have fun with a like-minded community. EDANZ members must not deliberately undermine or prevent the reasonable enjoyment of other squadron members. EDANZ leadership will warn, timeout or (in severe or repeated cases) expel members that do so.

Diplomacy

EDANZ supports the minor faction "EDA Kunti League" ("EDAKL"), with "Kunti" as its home system. Like most squadrons, EDANZ wants a healthy minor faction, present in many systems.

Supporting a minor faction may put us into conflict with other player-supported minor factions ("PMFs") from time to time. As a PvE-focused squadron, EDANZ prefers diplomatic solutions to conflicts.

Guidelines:
  1. EDANZ will aim to create and maintain good faith communication channels with nearby or like-minded squadrons and Power Play groups. Communication must be with an officer or someone authoritative.
  2. EDANZ may choose to ally with other squadrons. An alliance means EDANZ may assist or ask for assistance with BGS matters. However, EDANZ generally avoids offensive work against PMFs or engaging with large player groups that may reciprocate by threatening EDAKL space.
  3. When expanding the EDAKL PMF, EDANZ aims to either control the system or will fill a non-controlling place at the request of the controlling PMF squadron or Power. When EDANZ has a non-controlling presence at the request of the controlling PMF or Power, it is up to that controlling PMF or Power to maintain the system's influence.
  4. EDANZ will avoid intentionally expanding into any active PMF home, controlled or Power Play system unless requested by the PMF or Power. If the PMF squadron or Power does not want EDAKL to stay after EDANZ has expanded into the system, EDANZ will self-retreat from the system.
If EDANZ has had a spot filling a presence in a system that then a new PMF or Power have expanded into and have taken control of the system from the previous PMF or Power who has then requested for EDANZ to retreat the EDAKL PMF from the system, it is then up to that new PMF or Power to do so and not EDANZ. EDANZ will not oppose the request to retreat.
  5. EDANZ considers systems controlled by non-PMFs over the long term available for expansion, even if active PMFs are present. EDANZ will not work against PMFs to create this situation or be opportunistic.
  6. EDANZ considers inactive PMFs equivalent to non-PMFs. After the Live/Legacy galaxy split, EDANZ considers minor factions supported by console player squadrons inactive. See the following - EDA Public Statement on Live/Legacy game modes
  7. As a relatively old game, the Elite galaxy contains many inactive PMFs. EDANZ will attempt to contact a PMF's squadron's leadership by Inara, Discord, in-game chat and similar methods before any potential conflict. If EDANZ cannot locate suitable representatives or they do not respond, EDANZ will assume the squadron is inactive.
  8. If a previously in-active squadron becomes active again and intends to stay active, EDANZ is happy to hand their home or native system back to the PMF, support the PMF during and after the handover or retreat EDAKL from the system if the PMF's squadron desires it.
  9. EDANZ will work around Power Play. EDANZ is not aligned to any power and prefers to avoid antagonising large, organised player groups.
  10. If EDANZ leadership reasonably believes another squadron has undertaken non-consensual player-versus-player ("PvP") in EDAKL controlled systems or worked against EDAKL without prior diplomatic contact, EDANZ may respond proportionately using any in-game methods available.
